Arsene Lupin. Based on Play by Maurice Leblanc and Francis De Croisset

Edgar Jepson

This early work was originally a four-act play written by Maurice Leblanc and Francis de Croisset in 1908, and subsequently novelized by Leblanc and then translated by Edgar Jepson into English and published in 1909. Leblancs creation, gentleman thief Arsene Lupin, is everything you would expect from a French aristocrat witty, charming, brilliant, sly and possibly the greatest thief in the world. In this classic tale, Lupin plans to steal priceless objects of art and jewelry from a collector for his own private collection. His brilliant effrontery in the face of the police dares them to catch him with spectacular results! Theres romance, deception, and always something strange going on with all of the characters, really just an overall great read.

Happy Pollyooly. The Rich Little Poor Girl

Edgar Jepson

Happy Pollyooly: The Rich Little Poor Girl is a bride story. Jepson continues the story of his twelve year-old heroine, Mary Bride, known as Pollyooly. She is still acting as housekeeper to the Honorable John Ruffin, keeping his rooms spotlessly clean and grilling his bacon to the right turn. John Ruffin gets a windfall that enables him to take a seaside holiday. He takes Pollyooly and her brother along with him. Twice in the course of the story she is called to act the part of Lady Marion Ricksborough, the little peeress whom she so remarkably resembles, and in the second instance is instrumental in effecting a reconciliation between the duke and duchess, Lady Marions father and mother.

The Admirable Tinker. Child of the World

Edgar Jepson

Edgar Jepson was a prolific English writer whose career spanned from the eighteen-nineties to the nineteen-thirties. He achieved fame principally for his entertaining mainstream detective and adventure stories, although he also wrote two fantasies, The Horned Shepherd and The Garden at 19. If you enjoy the works of Edgar Jepson then we highly recommend this publication for your book collection. The title character of The Admirable Tinker is repeatedly described as an angel child and has a knack for attracting improbably large sums of money. Tinker plays tricks on people, and most of the time they serve some kind of practical purpose, but the favorite thing about him is how perfectly at home he is in all situations.

The Loudwater Mystery

Edgar Jepson

This novel was first published in 1920 and is along the lines of a classic whodunnit. Lord Loudwater is brash, short tempered and always bullying people. He was loved by none, feared by many and hated by all. When he is inexplicably found fatality stabbed with a letter opener, the list of suspects seems endless. Unfortunately for Detective Flexen, who is to investigate the case, Lord Loudwater was not a very agreeable sort of fellow and almost every person in his vicinity had a motive for the crime. Was it his young wife or her lover, his former fiancé or even one of the servants? If you like the old style crime novels where you are presented with a puzzle and have to try and work out who the killer is, then you should like this.

The Terrible Twins

Edgar Jepson

The twins are living in relatively straightened circumstances, as their father has died, and get up to all kinds of mischief, while being governed by their own set of values. The children, however, have little dread of poverty, for when ever they desire a luxury, such as a bicycle, or a fur stole for their mothers Christmas present, they devise some means to raise the necessary funds, and they stop at nothing from inducing a rich great-aunt to endow a home for cats to poaching for pheasants, and no matter what they do they always come out victorious, even when it comes to making or marring marriages. The Terrible Twins is written in a bright and amusing style and the author has indeed drawn upon a vivid imagination to think of all the scrapes and escapades in which the terrible twins are involved.
