Harrigan!

Max Brand

In Harrigan, prolific writer Max Brand takes a detour from the dusty trails of the West where his novels were typically set and spins a gripping nautical tale set in Hawaii and upon the open sea. What starts out as a chance meeting between two men turns into a heated race for priceless treasure and the love of a remarkable woman. Thrown into each others path where one has absolute power and the other only his strength and his unconquerable spirit, who will survive and who will win the hand of the fair lady is a tale well told and guaranteed to hold your interest until the very last sentence.

Hawks and Eagles

Max Brand

Hawks and Eagles is the authors classic. The brand is a great storyteller who shows his enthusiasm for humans and animals, such characters as a professor, a small dog, and Mole. Joe Good, the protagonist, hes twenty years old. His father was killed by the richest man in the city, because he wants a good ranch not to be. A good, lazy, prickly guy who lacks a sense of respect and respect for everyone in the city. The only thing he can do is to handle a whip with such skill that he becomes almost alive. This story is also a story of the growth of kindness to become the most respected person in his community.

Hawks of Outremer

Robert E. Howard

Hawks of Outremer is a tight tale. The main character is Cormac FitzGeoffrey, a bastard Norman-Gael who has thrown his lot in with the Crusaders. Once a loose peace was established in Outremer, Cormac returned to Ireland but after a short stint fighting, peace broke out there, too. Cormac returns to the Holy Land (Outremer) seeking to attach himself to a liege, only to learn that his liege of choice has been assassinated. Plots are afoot between Muslims and Christian lords who want nothing to do with Saladin nor European kings. Rather than jeopardize the peace with an armed force, FitzGeoffrey vows vengeance and embarks solo to deal death to those who deserve it.

The main character goes on a strange sea adventure to stop thinking about unhappy love. This is a story about a love triangle with unusual plot twists.

Hay Wire

B.M. Bower

The plot of "Hay-Wire" is centering around a family ranch and settled town. Lynn Hayward is bitter and frustrated over the way his familys ranch has fallen into disrepair through his vicious-tempered invalid fathers stinginess and willful neglect. Lynn reaches the pitch of resentment when he discovers that an apparently penniless old prospector, whos been taking gifts and favors from the Haywards for years, is actually concealing a fortune in his cabin. Bowers portrayal of Lynns struggles and gradual maturation, and of the tension and discord in his family, is convincing and compelling. One of many recommended Westerns by this prolific author.

Heart of Darkness

Joseph Conrad

Heart of Darkness, the novella by Joseph Conrad, is essentially a multi-layered narrative. The Narrator describes a night spent on a ship in the mouth of the Thames River in England. Marlow, one of the men on board, tells of his time spent as a riverboat pilot in the Belgian Congo. On the surface it is the adventurous story of Marlows search for Kurtz, who for him is a living legend. On one hand it is also a peek into the unconscious of man where darkness resides silently, and on the other, it also brings to mind the glimpses of Dantes Inferno i.e. the descent to hell. In a very powerful manner, Conrad lays before us the story evoking subjective impressions, as the characters of his story are obscure and their tales are only half-told. Be it Kurtz, Marlow or his native help. Masterly blend of adventure, character development, psychological penetration. Considered by many Conrads finest, most enigmatic story.
