Auf dem Weg nach Ortry rettet er Marion, Richemontes schöner Enkelin, das Leben und entdeckt seine Liebe zu ihr.

Młodzi badacze kultury popularnej, wykorzystując wiedzę adeptów dyscyplin, jakie zgłębiają na studiach: kulturoznawstwa, medioznawstwa, literaturoznawstwa, historii krytycznie przyjrzeli się zabiegom autora Gry o tron, skutkującym stworzeniem uniwersum, które okazało się atrakcyjne dla współczesnego uczestnika kultury. Wskazali, że Martin sięga do naszych, współczesnych, rozpoznań o człowieku i świecie: żyjemy w stanie rozproszenia, nieporządku, zaciemnienia reguł. Mocniej, jak się wydaje, akcentuje brak arche, utratę podstaw, co odpowiada postmodernistycznemu kontekstowi czasowemu, w jakim cykl powstał. Autorzy książki sprawdzali reguły z jednej strony wciągania odbiorcę w doskonale znany model gatunkowy fantasy, a drugiej – podsuwania tropów, aby szukać nowości, odmienności, oryginalności. Tytuł monografii narzucił się w sposób oczywisty. Nie tylko jako efektowna gra słów, odwołująca się do pomysłu George’a R. R. Martina: grę (o co? – na to pytanie próbują odpowiedzieć autorzy monografii) wprowadził wszak twórca do Westeroskiego uniwersum. To również propozycja metody badawczej, a mianowicie wskazanie kulturowych obszarów odniesień, wykorzystywanych przez Martina, jak: chaos zestawiany z linearnością historii oraz porządkiem religii i mocą magii, obrazowanie ludzkich lęków, zagubienia i poszukiwania tożsamości, demontaż wzorców archetypowych i struktur kompozycyjno-fabularnych.

Together they build a contraption, sphere, that can cut off gravity waves. Once on the moon Bedford and Cavor find that they are not alone. After a few adventures they are detained by the Moonies referred to mostly in this story as Selenites. Will they be able to make it back to Earth and warn the people of the strange creatures? Or will they be caught and who knows what may happen to them in the long run. The novel can also be read as a critique of prevailing political opinions from the turn of the century, particularly of imperialism.
