Romans i literatura obyczajowa
Anton Pavlovich Chekhov
A small collection of stories. The general theme of the stories is the diversity of emotions that the main characters experience, and by the end it turns out to be a bit painful. A variety of subjects, simple but wonderful, honed by irony. Most stories of unhappy marriages. The main characters can get married because of unhappy love or unexpected pregnancy.
Herman Melville
Melville has a fairly wide range of styles and approaches. Piazza is a Tolkien excursion into a fairyland, but she asks where the real fairyland is actually located. Piazza, a descriptive and sensitively told pastoral story.
Hugh Walpole
This is the story of a Cambridge student, Olva Dune, who commits murder. Ironically, the moment he commits his crime, he feels the presence of God. Perhaps a hundred years ago, March Square could boast of such excellent ignorance, but fashion is changing to prevent, perhaps, our own being too easily annoyed.
Charlotte Bronte
The Professor was the first novel by Charlotte Brontë. It was originally written before Jane Eyre. The book is the story of a young man, William Crimsworth, and is a first-person narrative from his perspective. Written in the style of a diary, it tells the story of woman living in 1930s Russia who finds herself toiling on a collective farm, battling with public transport, and generally struggling with life in Soviet Russia. Although the style and humor are slightly different than the others in the series, it manages to be on itself a thoroughly interesting book about one womans experiences in Communist Russia.
