Settlement studies on Orłów County until the 16th century. Territorial and administrative past, settlement landscape, and ownership relations

The book presents the territorial-administrative past, the settlement landscape, and the ownership structure in the area of former Orłów County until the 16th century. On the basis of the so far unexplored manuscript sources from the Central Archives of Historical Records in Warsaw, and the records of the metropolitan chapter in Gniezno, the landscape of medieval settlement in Orłów County has been reconstructed and the estates of the most important local noble families have been discussed. In the course of the research, it was possible to identify new settlement sites and shift the metrics of some of them. The annexes include a list of all identifiable settlement points and genealogical tables. The iconographic section and the geographical index also constitute an important element of the publication. * The publication is scientific in nature. Not only is the author familiar with the latest literature on the subject but he also introduces a number of his own new findings and verifies many of the statements that have functioned in historiography to date, especially those regarding the chronology of the establishment of many settlements. W książce przedstawiono wyniki interdyscyplinarnych badań nad dziełami i obecnością wielkiego dramaturga elżbietańskiego w Polsce w zmieniającym się kontekście historycznym i kulturowym. Jest ona po części efektem dyskusji naukowych prowadzonych w Międzynarodowym Centrum Badań Szekspirowskich utworzonym w Uniwersytecie Łódzkim w 2012 r. Interesująca tematyka (m.in. „mit Hamleta” w kulturze polskiej, sprawa autorstwa sztuk Szekspira i teoria spiskowa, Szekspir w Teatrze Telewizji Polskiej) oraz sposób, w jaki przedstawione zostały metamorfozy pisarza i jego twórczości w literaturze, filmie, telewizji i malarstwie, czynią z książki pasjonującą lekturę, która też pobudza refleksję nad kulturotwórczą funkcją dzieł Szekspira i coraz nowymi znaczeniami wydobywanymi z jego sztuk scenicznych. Światowe kultury uznano za uzasadnione płaszczyzny kulturowe, które nieustannie określają tożsamość, znaczenie i wartość dzieł Szekspira. Jakakolwiek praca poświęcona badaniu obecności Szekspira w kulturze światowej staje się źródłem wiedzy o wielokulturowości, demonstrując, jak powiedział to parę lat temu Terence Hawkes, nie tylko „[c]o Szekspir chciał nam powiedzieć”, lecz „[c]o my chcemy powiedzieć przez Szekspira”. Do tej kolorowej mozaiki kultur należy także polski Szekspir, ze swą odmiennością m.in. polityczną, socjologiczną oraz zdobyczami artystycznymi i filozoficznymi.

Smok to jedno z najbardziej zagadkowych i wielowymiarowych stworzeń w historii ludzkości. W podaniach, legendach i opowieściach te majestatyczne stworzenia przybierały różne formy i rozmiary. Jego obecność odznaczyła się w kulturze chińskiej i ogólnoświatowej a ta bogato ilustrowana książeczka stanowi przekrojowe studium kultury, sztuki, podań ustnych i chińskich wierzeń. Powstała równo sto lat temu i wciąż zaskakuje swoim bogactwem i różnorodnością, okazuje się bowiem, że jeszcze sto lat temu większość Chińczyków wierzyła w istnienie smoków, a relacje spotkaniach z nimi nie należały do rzadkości. Oddajmy jednak głos wybitnemu chińskiemu intelektualiście, który przygotował wprowadzenie do tej pozycji: Smok jest jednym z najbardziej powszechnych ornamentalnych wzorów w Chinach i można go spotkać w całym kraju. To tajemnicze stworzenie pobudza wyobraźnię i stało się inspiracją wielu gałęzi sztuki, [w ostatnich czasach zwłaszcza filmowej]. Jednakże, pomimo wielkiego znaczenia przywiązywanego do smoka, bardzo niewiele zostało napisane na jego temat, zarówno w języku chińskim, jak i angielskim. Istnieje tylko kilka ogólnych artykułów na ten temat zostało opublikowanych w czasopismach, a odniesienia do niego w książkach są bardzo krótkie. Aż do teraz w żadnym z tych dwóch języków, nie powstało niezależne studium smoka w formie książkowej. Autor posługuje się językiem chińskim jak rodowity Chińczyk. Dzięki temu posiadł on wiedzę z pierwszej ręki i znajomość języka, która pomagała mu w jego badaniach. Tematyką związaną z chińskim smokiem zajmuje się już od czternastu lat. W tym czasie odwiedził więcej niż połowę liczby wszystkich prowincji Chin. Studium to nie jest więc wynikiem jedynie kilkumiesięcznego badania, ani też nie jest produktem badań tylko w jednym mieście lub prowincji. Znajomość ludzi i języka chińskiego umożliwiła autorowi dotarcie do oryginalnych źródeł i zbadanie tematu pod każdym kątem. Być może ostatnie słowo na temat chińskiego smoka nie zostało jeszcze powiedziane, niemniej jednak można śmiało powiedzieć, że ta rozprawa jest tak kompletna, jak tylko pozwala na to nasza obecna wiedza. Ten mały tom powinien być wartościowy dla wszystkich, którzy w jakikolwiek sposób są zainteresowani Chinami, zaś relacja o smoku będzie wartościowa nie tylko dla obcokrajowców, ale także dla samych Chińczyków. Autor uczynił z tego studium swoją wieloletnią pasję i rezultat jego badań jest wspaniałym wkładem do literatury o Chinach. Byłoby dobrze, gdyby więcej osób zajęło się w ten sam sposób badaniem innych elementów chińskiego życia i dzięki temu pomogło w interpretacji całokształtu chińskiej kultury na Zachodzie.
