Completed adulthood & public policies. How institutional and policy instruments facilitate the educational, vocational, family and civic life of Polish young adults?

Jolanta Grotowska-Leder, Agnieszka Dziedziczak-Foltyn, Marcin Kotras, Marcin...

The monograph is concerned with the phenomenon of transition to adulthood of young Poles and reaching the stage of completed adulthood, i.e. being economically and socially independent. The study is the first comprehensive presentation of this complex process in Poland by applying a sociological perspective, public policies analysis, assessments of young adults and representatives of institutions providing support for various life difficulties. The monograph is based primarily on qualitative (narrative and group interviews) and quantitative (statistical) data. The publication has a scientific and applied character. The book may be of interest to both academics, mainly sociologists, demographers and social politicians, as well as young people and practitioners involved in organising support for young people who experience difficulties in their everyday life during the transition to adulthood. * This is a pioneering book on the process of transition to stabilised/completed adulthood, socioeconomic and family conditions and effects in a Poland undergoing profound economic, political and socio-cultural changes. From the review by prof. Wielisława Warzywoda-Kruszyńska The reviewed work emanates originality and a non-standard approach both to the theory, the research itself and the presentation of results. Reading this monograph [...] leads to the conclusion thot there is no similar work in Poland, and one may risk a thesis that there is no similar work in the EU, and it is good that it will be published in English, inspiring researchers and analysts to [...] reflect on life at different stages of development within the human life cycle. From the review by prof. Krzysztof Czekaj

Compound nouns and phrasal nouns in English and Polish

Ukazano nieostrość granicy pomiędzy złożeniami właściwymi i wielowyrazowymi jednostkami leksykalnymi. Podkreślono interakcję pomiędzy procesami słowotwórczymi oraz składniowymi. Przedstawiono analizę omawianych zjawisk w ramach teorii morfologii konstrukcji (Construction Morphology), stanowiącej zastosowanie założeń gramatyki konstrukcji do badania wewnętrznej struktury wyrazów. Praca skierowana jest głównie do badaczy zajmujących się słowotwórstwem, morfoskładnią, frazeologią i leksyką języka angielskiego i polskiego, językoznawstwem teoretycznym oraz kontrastywnym. Zainteresuje również studentów kierunków neofilologicznych.

Concrete Structures

Viktar Tur, Marta Kosior-Kazberuk, Robert Grygo, Andrei...

Implementation of the Eurocodes extends to all of the European countries and there are firm steps toward their adoption internationally. As with any design codes, it is important to have an understanding of the principles and background, as well as design aids to assist in the design process. The relevance to train in the use of Eurocodes should be pointed out, especially in engineering schools as a basic course for civil and structural engineering students and as a part of continious professional development courses for engineers and technicians, which are promoted both at national and international levels. This book is directed primarily at civil and structural engineering students, young designers, who require an understanding of the basic theory and a concise guide for design procedure.

Confianza y palabra.

Continuity. Eleven sketches from the past of Mathematics

Jerzy Mioduszewski, tłum. Abe Shenitzer

The book was written in the eighties of the last century. Being encouraged by the editorial board of monthly Delta in the person of Professor Marek Kordos, the author’s first aim was a collection of essays about Peano maps, lakes of Wada, and several singularities of real functions. But it was the time when university duties stopped and the author could freely meditate whether this curious mathematics had its roots in the forgotten past. He remembered old authors who began their books with the words “already the ancient Greeks… .” The celebrated nineteenth century, the century of concepts, was preceded by the century of calculations. Going further back we can see Newton, but what and who was there before? Were the centuries between the Ancients and Newton a vacuum in mathematical sciences? Accidentally, the treatise De continuo by Thomas Bradwardine, the Archbishop of Canterbury, led the author into an unknown and strange world of medieval scholastic thought, showing to him the lost thread joining our times with Zeno, Aristotle and Democritus. However, to find this forgotten link a step should be taken beyond pure mathematical thinking. In this extended surrounding we can observe the unity of mathematical concepts being non-existent in the realm of pure mathematics.
