Ich glaubte mich dazu umsomehr berechtigt, als ja bereits meine Übersetzung von Kochanowskis Drama) einen ungewöhnlichen Erfolg zu verzeichnen hatte. Das Stück wurde im Rahmen einer großangelegten Kochanowskifeier von der Deutschen Bühne in Bromberg (Bydgoszcz) glänzend in Szene gesetzt, und sowohl jene denkwürdige Aufführung, als auch mein Buch erfreuten sich weit über die Grenzen hinaus in der Presse Deutschlands, Frankreichs, ja selbst Amerikas spaltenlanger Besprechungen, in denen fast ausnahmslos von der hohen kulturellen Bedeutung dieses Ereignisses die Rede war. Ich glaube kaum, dass eine zweite Übersetzung aus dem Polnischen, sei es in welche Sprache immer, sich im neuen Polen auf eine ähnliche ,,propagandistische<< Wirkung berufen könnte. Auch meine früheren Erfahrungen in Böhmen, wo gleich meine ersten schüchternen Anfänge freundlicher Aufnahme begegneten und man mir von allen Seiten bereitwilligst jegliche Unterstützung anbot, -- auch diese sympathischen Erfahrungen, die ich noch in lieber Erinnerung hege, ließen mich erwarten, dass man endlich auch hier, wo so viel von ,,kultureller Propaganda<< gesprochen und geschrieben wird, wenigstens in diesem Falle die Bedeutsamkeit und Tragweite meiner Arbeit begreifen werde.
