Prace chińskich naukowców zaczynają dominować w periodykach naukowych. Chińscy astronauci pracują w chińskiej stacji orbitalnej, a za chwilę, śladem chińskich łazików udadzą się na Księżyc, by zbudować tam pierwszą w historii ludzkości bazę zamieszkałą przez ekipy naukowców i księżycowych górników. Chiny systematycznie rozpychają się w naszej współczesności, a my o Chinach wiemy niewiele. I coraz mniej je rozumiemy. Nie rozumiemy, bo nie przyjmujemy do wiadomości, że są osobną cywilizacją, osobnym centrum kulturowym, przestrzenią rządzoną osobnymi stosunkami społecznymi, z których wywodzi się odmienny ustrój polityczny i osobny sposób zarządzania państwem. Zebrałem w jednym miejscu najważniejsze czynniki kształtujące współczesne Chiny, a sprawiające, że nie mając o nich pojęcia, zupełnie Chin nie rozumiemy. Zebrałem je w jednym miejscu, ale można się z nimi zapoznawać w dowolnej kolejności, bo ta kolejność nie ma znaczenia. A skąd tytuł "Twierdza"? Wiem, ale nie powiem.
