Rule-Following. From Imitation to the Normative Mind

In this book, Bartosz Brożek attempts to decipher the practice of rule-following with the use of the tools offered both by contemporary philosophy and neuroscience. The Author claims – in the Wittgensteinian spirit – that rule-following cannot be thought of in terms of individual mental states only: in order to explain what rules are, one needs to consider rule-following to be a communal practice. This stance is supported by a number of evolutionary scenarios and neuroscientific theories. The monograph culminates in an explication of rule-following in language, morality and mathematics.

Celem niniejszej monografii jest omówienie teorii skal przestrzeni Banacha oraz teorii interpolacji wraz z podaniem przykładów ich zastosowań. W pierwszej kolejności opisano teoretyczne podstawy teorii interpolacji. Podano definicje oraz podstawowe twierdzenia dotyczące konstrukcji przestrzeni interpolacyjnych (interpolacja rzeczywista i zespolona). Druga, główna, część monografii przedstawia definicję potęg ułamkowych operatorów, w szczególności dodatnich operatorów sektorialnych. Zaprezentowano także ich zastosowanie do konstrukcji skal przestrzeni Banacha, które jako główny obiekt badań są przykładem przestrzeni interpolacyjnych. W pracy zamieszczono również charakteryzację skal przestrzeni Banacha, która służy jako podstawa teoretyczna do opisu zastosowań tej teorii. W trzeciej części pokazano wykorzystanie podanej wcześniej teorii do badania „zachowań” operatorów na różnych poziomach skali. Udowodniono twierdzenia dotyczące operatorów domkniętych oraz operatorów sektorialnych. Następnie opisano konkretne równania cząstkowe, w rozwiązywaniu których można zastosować wspomnianą teorię.

Książka stanowi zbiór artykułów poświęconych zagadnieniom związanym z lingwistyką kontrastywną. Artykuły w niej zaprezentowane omawiają w głównej mierze kwestie dotyczące kontrastywnej semantyki kognitywnej. Niemniej jednak, kilka artykułów skupia się wokół morfologii i pragmatyki kontrastywnej, dzięki czemu może być wartościowym woluminem dla szerszego grona czytelników. W publikacji poruszane są zjawiska językowe występujące głównie w języku polskim i angielskim, jednakże czytelnika mogą także zainteresować odniesienia do języka chorwackiego, francuskiego, czy czeskiego. Celem pracy była ocena właściwości populacji B. pendula rosnącej w warunkach zróżnicowanej antropopresji z uwagi na: wybrane cechy life history (np.: parametry wielkości, biomasy osobników, ocena płodności osobników), określenie kondycji osobników brzozy, ocenę czynników abiotycznych i biotycznych odpowiedzialnych za rozmieszczenie siewek w przestrzeni. Do badań wybrano brzozę brodawkowatą gatunek siedliskotwórczy o szerokiej skali ekologicznej, odporny na zanieczyszczenia środowiska. Badania prowadzono w latach 2005–2008 oraz 2009–2010 na 4 powierzchniach badawczych różniących się stopniem antropopresji. Wyniki prezentowanej pracy mogą stanowić nowe źródło wiedzy na temat sposobu kształtowania się pokrywy roślinnej, która zasiedla zdegradowane tereny nieużytków poprzemysłowych. Tylko rezultaty długoterminowych badań nad procesami zasiedlania przez poszczególne gatunki zwałów poprzemysłowych mogą ułatwić prace planistyczne związane z rekultywacją i zagospodarowaniem takich obiektów.

The Council of Lithuanian Jews (Lithuanian Vaad) was the central representative organ of the Jews in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. It operated for nearly one and a half centuries (1623-1764), touching all spheres of the Jewish community's life. It undertook important initiatives for the benefit of its constituency at diets and dietines (legislative assemblies of the nobility), at the courts of the King and important magnates, and in non-Jewish courts of law. This book discusses the Council's activities in the context of processes and phenomena present in Jewish society of the time, illustrating the life of Lithuanian Jewry as a separate estate guided by a common sense of identity transcending local affiliation.
