Książka jest poświęcona wybranym współczesnym brytyjskim powieściom, które przepisują (powtarzają w formie echa) dwa mity biblijne i mit Biblii. Niniejsze studium postrzega rewizje biblijne autorstwa Winterson, Burgessa, Roberts, Crace’a, Alderman i Pullmana jako krytyczne refleksje nad współczesnymi sposobami rozumienia brytyjskiej tożsamości narodowej, relacji między kobietami oraz tradycji liberalnej. Powieści te krytycznie przyglądają się biblijnym mitom/mitowi Biblii, próbując tak je zrewidować, aby wykorzystać je do mniej dogmatycznego, bardziej płynnego wyobrażenia wspólnoty. Taka słaba, samoświadoma i krytyczna rewizja mitów biblijnych wyłaniająca się w tych powieściach jest nazwana „the echoing myth”.

“The Efficiency Expert“ is a novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, an American fiction writer, who created such great characters as Tarzan and John Carter of Mars. One of a small number of Burroughs' novels set in contemporary America as opposed to a fantasy universe, The Efficiency Expert follows the adventures of Jimmy Torrance as he attempts to make a career for himself in 1921 Chicago. The book is remarkable for the criminal livelihoods of the hero's friends.
