Niniejsza praca sytuuje się w nurcie badań genologicznych uwzględniającym w opisie gatunków zarówno kategorie pragmatyczno-semantyczne, jak też założenia stylistyki, dyskursu oraz aksjologii. Dynamika rozwoju form gatunkowych rozpatrywana jest więc w kontekście procesów historycznych, zmian technologicznych oraz uwarunkowań społeczno-kulturowych. Celem opracowania jest porównanie komisywnych gatunków mowy zakorzenionych w rosyjskiej i polskiej przestrzeni komunikacyjnej. Prezentowane są typologie gatunków z uwzględnieniem różnych ich aspektów, m.in. intencjonalnego, retorycznego, funkcjonalnego. Zróżnicowanie parametrów gatunkowych interpretowane jest również z perspektywy kulturowej. Zarysowane w książce spojrzenie na gatunki mowy pozwala odejść od tradycyjnych metod ich badania. Umożliwia to przede wszystkim osadzenie gatunku w kontekście sytuacyjnym oraz traktowanie go jako kategorii scalającej elementy strukturalne wypowiedzi z jej podmiotem wraz z wyznawanym przez niego systemem wartości.
