Monografia wpisuje się w nurt studiów językoznawczych nad semantyką nazw wartości. Podjęto w niej próbę rekonstrukcji językowego obrazu pracy w dwóch pokrewnych językach słowiańskich – rosyjskim i polskim. Głównym założeniem monografii było przeniknięcie poprzez analizę semantyczną leksemów i frazeologizmów, wyekscerpowanych ze źródeł leksykograficznych (m.in. słowników objaśniających, frazeologicznych, mowy potocznej oraz slangu młodzieżowego), do sfery konceptów. Analiza ta miała na celu ukazanie, w jaki sposób praca postrzegana i interpretowana bywa przez Polaków i Rosjan, użytkowników zarówno języka ogólnego, jak i slangu młodzieżowego. Badanie materiału przeprowadzane było wielotorowo: nie tylko na bazie opozycji język rosyjski – język polski, ale również na bazie opozycji język ogólny – slang. Monografia ma charakter interdyscyplinarny, czerpie z dorobku etnolingwistyki, lingwistyki kulturowej, lingwistyki kognitywnej i socjolingwistyki. Jest adresowana do filologów różnych specjalności, w szczególności językoznawców: rusycystów i polonistów. Uzyskane wyniki badań mogą znaleźć zastosowanie w praktyce akademickiej, przy opracowywaniu pomocy naukowych dla osób uczących się języka polskiego i rosyjskiego, przy tworzeniu słowników (jednojęzycznych, dwujęzycznych) oraz w procesie tłumaczenia.
