Moving between Modes. Papers in Intersemiotic Translation in Memoriam Professor Alina Kwiatkowska

Mikołaj Deckert, Monika Kocot, Aleksandra Majdzińska-Koczorowicz

Professor Alina Kwiatkowska's untimely departure prevented her from seeing this publication project through to the end. This book is dedicated to her memory and it is only suitable to have the volume summarised in Professor Kwiatkowska's own words, coming from a draft of the former editor's introductory chapter: "The present collection of papers was inspired by the international conference on lntersemiotic Translation held at the University of Łódź in 2013. Organized by the Institute of English Studies, it brought together many enthusiastic participants, who gathered to discuss the issues that many traditional scholars would consider to be niche and rather exotic. The volume includes a selection of papers from that conference, complemented by same additional contributions." Mikołaj Deckert Monika Kocot Aleksandra Majdzińska-Koczorowicz

Mów lepiej po angielsku. Unikaj typowych błędów Polaków mówiących po angielsku

Matt Hammond

This ebook was written by a native speaker of English to help Poles avoid the typical mistakes they always tend to make when they speak English. The author collected these mistakes over a 20 year period of teaching English in Poland. The mistakes, a result of thinking in Polish, are presented in the context of light-hearted, humorous dialogues between Graham, an English guy visiting Poland, and the various people he encounters whilst there. After each dialogue, the reader gets the opportunity to provide a corrected version of each mistake, and is then presented with a detailed explanation of why Poles make these mistakes and how to avoid them. The author still hears these mistakes on a daily basis - even from advanced students - so eliminating them will make you stand out from the crowd and improve the impression you make considerably.

Mrs. Warren's Profession

George Bernard Shaw

“Mrs. Warren's Profession” is a play by George Bernard Shaw, an Irish playwright who became the leading dramatist of his generation, and in 1925 was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.   The play is about a former prostitute, now a madam (brothel proprietor), who attempts to come to terms with her disapproving daughter. This is one of three plays Shaw published as Plays Unpleasant in 1898. They were termed "unpleasant" because they were intended, not to entertain their audiences – as the traditional Victorian theatre was expected to – but to raise awareness of social problems and to censure exploitation of the labouring class by the unproductive rich. The other plays in the group are Widowers' Houses and The Philanderer.
