Major Barbara is a three-act English play by George Bernard Shaw. The story concerns an idealistic young woman, Barbara Undershaft, who is engaged in helping the poor as a Major in the Salvation Army in London. For many years, Barbara and her siblings have been estranged from their father, Andrew Undershaft, who now reappears as a rich and successful munitions maker. Undershaft, the father, gives money to the Salvation Army, offending Major Barbara, who does not want to be connected to his "tainted" wealth.

“Man and Superman” is a play by George Bernard Shaw, an Irish playwright who became the leading dramatist of his generation, and in 1925 was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. Man and Superman is a four-act drama written by George Bernard Shaw. The series was written in response to a call for Shaw to write a play based on the Don Juan theme. Mr. Whitefield has recently died, and his will indicates that his daughter Ann should be left in the care of two men, Roebuck Ramsden and John Tanner. Ramsden, a venerable old man, distrusts John Tanner, an eloquent youth with revolutionary ideas, whom Shaw's stage directions describe as "prodigiously fluent of speech, restless, excitable (mark the snorting nostril and the restless blue eye, just the thirty-secondth of an inch too wide open), possibly a little mad". In spite of what Ramsden says, Ann accepts Tanner as her guardian, though Tanner doesn't want the position at all.

Because Eden is a rough, uneducated sailor from a working-class background and the Morses are a bourgeois family, a union between them would be impossible unless and until he reached their level of wealth and refinement.

W maju 2004 r. Zakład Teorii Języka i Metodologii Językoznawstwa (obecnie Zakład Językoznawstwa Angielskiego i Ogólnego w Instytucie Anglistyki UŁ) zorganizował seminarium naukowe poświęcone metodologii szeroko pojętych badań nad językiem. Intencją organizatorów było przedstawienie najważniejszych podejść we współczesnych badaniach językoznawczych, a do wygłoszenia wykładów zaproszeni zostali wybitni przedstawiciele reprezentujący językoznawstwo generatywne i kognitywne, teorię relewancji i gramatykę konstrukcji, badacze różnych odmian semantyki i pragmatyki, a także logicy i filozofowie, których badania koncentrują się wokół analiz języka. Spotkanie zaowocowało m.in. publikacją poświęconą podstawom teoretycznym metodologii językoznawstwa. To pierwsze seminarium miało być pierwotnie spotkaniem jednorazowym, ale dyskusje po kolejnych wykładach dobitnie pokazały, że istnieje środowiskowa potrzeba szerokiej wymiany myśli, zarówno pomiędzy samymi językoznawcami (reprezentującymi różne podejścia teoretyczne i różne filologie), jak i przedstawicielami innych dyscyplin. Tak powstała inicjatywa organizowania co dwa lata seminariów podejmujących tematykę metodologiczną i wydawania kolejnych publikacji z tego zakresu. Najnowszy tom nosi podtytuł Od dialektologii do dialektyki. Ta umowna klamra tematyczna obejmuje badania dotyczące słowotwórstwa w gwarach, rozważania dotyczące rodowodu współczesnej pragmatyki, schematów argumentacyjnych w racjonalnej dyskusji, socjolingwistycznych refleksji nad narracją osobistą oraz metodologii badań w przekładzie audiowizualnym. Dwa rozdziały dotyczą problematyki języka migowego: stanu badań nad językami migowymi w kontekście metodologicznym językoznawstwa kognitywnego drugiej generacji oraz analizy suprasegmentalnych wykładników negacji w polskim języku migowym.
