Zbiór opowieści zawartych w dziele pod tytułem Przysionek – dom dla pozornie umarłych porusza różne tematy. Snute przez bohaterów historie mówią o ludzkich lękach, niesprawiedliwości, przemijaniu, bolesnych wspomnieniach, niezrozumieniu, buncie, miłości i pożądaniu, ale również o uszkodzonych słuchawkach i kąpieli w Bałtyku. Narratorami są czterej mocno dojrzali mężczyźni. Przyjaciele spotykają się co wtorek w knajpce, by przy kawie, piwie i papierosie pogadać o życiu. Każde opowiadanie jest wypadkową konkretnej sytuacji, zdarzenia czy rozmowy. Okazuje się przy tym, że pozornie zwykli faceci mogą być nie tylko wnikliwymi obserwatorami rzeczywistości, ale też wrażliwymi i sentymentalnymi ludźmi, poetami dojrzałego już życia. I to chyba w tym wszystkim jest najdziwniejsze, najbardziej nieprawdopodobne. A może nie?

W 1965 roku zaczął pracować jako dziennikarz. W 1971 roku wydana została jego pierwsza powieść The Carpet People, a potem kolejne The Dark Side of the Sun (1976) i Strata (1981). W 1980 roku został rzecznikiem prasowym Centralnego Zarządu Elektroenergetyki. W 1983 roku wydana została jego pierwsza powieść z cyklu Świat Dysku - "Kolor magii". Po ukazaniu się w 1986 roku książek "Blask fantastyczny" i "Mort" Terry Pratchett zdecydował się poświęcić wyłącznie pisaniu. Od tego czasu zarówno ilość wydanych i sprzedawanych książek, jak i popularność pisarza systematycznie wzrasta. Pratchett był także autorem kilku książek dla młodych czytelników. W 1998 roku został uhonorowany przez królową brytyjską Orderem Imperium Brytyjskiego za zasługi dla literatury.
