Dziewczynka stoi w słońcu obok zbiornika na wodę i dłonią ściera z niego rdzę, jakby to były płatki złota. Dziewczynka siedzi na pace pikapa, a ojciec wiezie ją na szczyt wzgórza, z którego wyrasta tęcza. Dziewczynka szuka w szafie czarnych ubrań, w których pójdzie na pogrzeb brata. "Dotyk" to proza złożona z niepozornych obrazów, zza których przeziera groza codziennego życia we współczesnej Palestynie. Główna bohaterka tej noweli, bezimienna mała dziewczynka, mierzy się z dojmującym poczuciem niedopasowania, całe dnie spędzając w milczeniu. Świata doświadcza - a my, czytający, wraz z nią - poprzez szczegół: portret zmarłego brata wiszący nad telewizorem, widok w lusterku wstecznym samochodu, w którym zamyka się na długie godziny, strzępy rozmów dorosłych o masakrze w Sabrze i Szatili. W końcu azylem staje się dla niej literatura, ale ceną, jaką za to płaci, jest dalsza izolacja od najbliższych i pogłębiające się doświadczenie wyobcowania. * Fragment: Dziewczynka przestała spożywać posiłki razem z rodzeństwem, bo więcej przy nich było krzyku niż jedzenia. Jadała sama, potem sama zasypiała w salonie, bo krzyki sióstr niosły się aż do sypialni. Później ojciec zbudował ścianę oddzielającą jej posłanie od kanapy dla gości, ponieważ goście robili jeszcze więcej hałasu niż rodzeństwo. Lecz dźwięki wciąż do niej podpełzały przez otwory w drzwiach, szczelinę między dolną częścią drzwi a podłogą, między drzwiami a framugą, i ze wszystkich miejsc. Za dnia szła daleko na pola, wieczorem siedziała w ojcowskim samochodzie i wracała do domu dopiero wtedy, kiedy wszyscy usnęli. Kluczyki do samochodu kładła na kominku i szła do swojego pokoju, a kiedy rozlegał się kolejny dźwięk, oddalała się. Samotność strzegła dla dziewczynki miejsca pośród ciszy. * Adania Shibli - urodziła się w 1974 roku w Palestynie. Autorka powieści, m.in. "Drobnego szczegółu" nominowanego do Międzynarodowego Bookera, tekstów scenicznych, opowiadań i esejów, które były publikowane w różnych antologiach, albumach o sztuce i magazynach literackich.
