Dach na tym domu jest straszliwie pozapadany, żaluzje zawsze spuszczone, balkony pokryte gniazdami jaskółek, drzwi stale zamknięte. Bujna trawa znaczy zielonymi liniami szczeliny w kamiennych schodach, żelazne poręcze pordzewiały. Księżyc, słońce, zima, lato, śnieg wyżłobiły drzewo, spaczyły deski, zżarły malowania. Głuchą ciszę, która tam panuje, mącą jedynie ptaki, koty, kuny, szczury i myszy, mogące tam swobodnie uganiać, bić się, zjadać się wzajem.
