W monografii przedstawiono metodę delimitacji transgranicznych obszarów funkcjonalnych, w tym zestaw ramowych kryteriów i etapów delimitacji, oraz wynik jej pilotażowego zastosowania – wyznaczenie trzech wariantów przebiegu granic karkonoskiego transgranicznego obszaru funkcjonalnego i wybór wariantu optymalnego. Opracowanie opiera się na bogatym zapleczu literaturowym i źródłowym. Zaprezentowana metoda i studium przypadku mogą być użyteczne zarówno dla instytucji zarządzających programami współpracy transgranicznej, jak i dla władz lokalnych, dla których mogą stanowić materiał pomocniczy przy podejmowaniu decyzji w sprawach tworzenia i funkcjonowania transgranicznych obszarów funkcjonalnych.
