A Strange Story is a mystery novel, which is told from the perspective of Dr. Allan Fenwicke, a rational materialist. He publically debunks the spiritualist beliefs of his fellow physician Dr. Lloyd, and thereby hastens his colleagues demise. It is an interesting novel with beautiful story full of suspense, thrill, love, drama and unexpected twists.

The tale begins, like many books about Konrad, with a group of travelers gathered together and exchanging maritime stories. Falk is subtle and minimalistic, and perhaps only the writer of the great Conrad can still do this; a calm, introspective story, which, however, is worth reading. This is a charming romantic tale in which Conrads usual gloomy, psychological fabrications, but evocative, but truly pedestrian story of a Marine... with a dark, primitive twist.

Maggies often tormented battle to do her duty and belong on the one hand, and to be herself, wild and natural on the other, propels her from one crisis to another. As the Tulliver fortunes decline and fall, the rift between Maggie and her family becomes almost irreconcilable. But Maggies biggest mistake of all is to fall in love with Stephen Guest who is engaged to another woman. This novel is a masterpiece of ambiguity in which moral choice is subjected to the hypocrisy of the Victorian age.

Pod pseudonimem Jerzy Orwicz ukrywała się Natalia Dzierżkówna (18611931) polska poetka, prozaiczka, tłumaczka, malarka i działaczka społeczna. Pochodziła z Podola, w Odessie zaangażowała się w działalność socjalistyczną. Po powrocie z zesłania zamieszkała w Warszawie, gdzie rozwinęła twórczość literacką i malarską. Rozgłos i uznanie przyniosły jej powieści biograficzne o Tadeuszu Kościuszce: Żywot wodza narodu (1909) i Od Dubienki do Racławic (1918).
