Poland on the New Silk Road. Current state and perspectives

The reactivation of the concept of the old Silk Road (SR), the so-called New Silk Road (NSR) or the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), formerly also known as the One Belt, One Road (OBOR), is aimed at generating additional value in the logistics network. The network of connections, proposed as a necessary part of the BRI, considers the Republic of Poland (RP) to be a key country for the creation of the route. The proposed book provides an overview of China's relations with Poland in the context of the NSR. It also attempts to describe the impact which the BRI has on the land and maritime supply chains in Poland. In addition, it endeavours to answer questions about the opportunities and threats resulting from Poland's participation in the initiative as well as to assess its further development prospects. To this end, the publication analyses various documents and publications or press releases on mutual Sino-Polish relations, particularly data published in numerous industry reports, national development strategies until 2030 or the European Union (EU) as well as local projects and statistics. The Authors also performed the scenario analysis on the basis of the PEST and SWOT analysis of the factors influencing the further development of the Chinese concept.

Roman Kuźniar focuses on the main challenges of the period in question: regaining sovereignty and establishing a solid foundation for Poland's security as well as economic and civilisational development. The successes in these areas made Poland regain the freedom to operate in the international arena. The author combined a regular lecture on foreign policy with his critical commentary. This book is concerned with the real foreign policy, i.e. the one that Poland has actually been pursuing (the "positive" policy rather than the postulated one). What this is not, then, is a study of accompanying concepts, options, criticisms or debate. While always interesting and at times fascinating, these threads are only referred to intermittently here (Roman Kuźniar).

International expansion of Polish enterprises through foreign direct investment is a relatively new although dynamic phenomenon that starts to exerts powerful effect on the landscape of Polish economy and its competitiveness. Understandably, it arouses growing interest among businessmen, politicians, and economists. Being a part of relatively modest, so far, population of publications on active internationalisation of Polish enterprises, this book discusses results of studies conducted at the Faculty of Economics and Sociology of the University of Lodz. Its merits include a comprehensive approach to the subject: it presents solid theoretical foundations of the internationalization process as well as quantitative (based on detailed, unpublished data of the Central Statistical Office of Poland (GUS) for Poland and for the Lodz voivodeship) and qualitative (questionnaire based study of determinants and effects of internationalisation of enterprises from the Lodz voivodeship) empirical analyses. Thus, it is an attempt of closing the information gap in the Polish publishing market, which may also provide further inspiration for future investigation of Polish direct investment.
