Prestiż zawodowy jest jednym z klasycznych tematów socjologii już od początków XX wieku. Jest to pojęcie niejednoznaczne i trudne do zdefiniowania. Co więcej, znaczna część badań dotyczących prestiżu uwzględnia jedynie perspektywę makrostrukturalną - jak poszczególne grupy zawodowe są postrzegane przez ogół społeczeństwa i którym z nich przypisywany jest najwyższy prestiż.Opisane w tej książce badanie (przeprowadzone w ramach pracy doktorskiej autorki) miało na celu uzupełnienie dotychczasowej refleksji nad prestiżem o perspektywę indywidualną.
