Bez względu na epokę, w której człowiek żyje, samotność, tęsknota i cierpienie są zawsze te same i zawsze tak samo przeżywane. Zwłaszcza jeśli jest to samotność wśród ludzi, tęsknota za zwykłym ciepłem drugiego człowieka i cierpienie wynikające z odtrącenia przez innych. Czy działo się to dawno temu, czy działo się wczoraj – trauma odrzucenia pozostaje ta sama, a lekcja miłości do odrobienia. Tymczasem Jane Eyre ukazała tę drogę nie tylko jako możliwą do przezwyciężenia, ale pewną, przykładem własnej osoby ręcząc, że sprawiedliwość istnieje, a cierpienie zostaje wynagrodzone.
