Przyczyną tego niegasnącego zainteresowania jest bez wątpienia fakt, że wzrost gospodarczy jest kluczowym czynnikiem mającym zasadniczy wpływ na poziom i jakość życia ludności. Ukazany jest komplementarny charakter teorii instytucjonalnej i teorii neoklasycznej, który umożliwił powiązanie teorii wzrostu gospodarczego z zagadnieniem instytucji i włączenie czynników instytucjonalnych w zakres analizy wzrostu. Opracowanie zawiera również część empiryczną, w której autor podejmuje próbę ekonometrycznego zbadania związku jakości otoczenia instytucjonalnego ze wzrostem gospodarczym dla kilkudziesięciu gospodarek świata w latach 1980–2005, wykorzystując panelowe modele regresji wzrostu.
