Betrachtung ist ein Sammelband mit 18 meist kurzen Prosatexten von Franz Kafka, der Ende 1912 erschienen ist. Bereits 1908 waren acht der Prosastücke mit dem Obertitel Betrachtung in der Zeitschrift Hyperion veröffentlicht worden. In Betrachtung werden Themen dargestellt, die Kafka auch im Weiteren immer wieder aufgriff, nämlich jugendliche Geselligkeit, zwischenmenschliche Abgrenzung, Junggeselleneinsamkeit und die Mühen des Kaufmannsdaseins.

Wniebowzięte. O stewardesach w PRL-u

W 1903 roku Orville Wright wzbija się w powietrze maszyną napędzaną silnikiem spalinowym i na nowo definiuje wolność. W 1945 jej smak poznaje w Polsce sześć dziewcząt, dwie dekady później około dwudziestu. Z każdym rokiem jest ich więcej. Znają języki obce, są młode, piękne i bardzo dobrze wykształcone. Wyjeżdżają na Zachód, kupują modne ubrania, kawior popijają szampanem, podróżują z aktorami, pisarzami, sportowcami. Nocują w najlepszych hotelach, zarabiają w dolarach, chodzą na rauty w ambasadach. I to wszystko w godzinach pracy. Totalna wolność to daje w PRL-u zawód stewardesy. Zawód, a właściwie zajęcie, jak twierdzą setki zazdrosnych, polegający na tym, by ładnie wyglądać, przejść się po pokładzie i podać kanapki pasażerom. To wszystko prawda. Częściowa. Bo bycie stewardesą w PRL-u to także praca po dwanaście godzin na dobę przez niemal trzydzieści dni w miesiącu, konieczność radzenia sobie ze zmęczeniem, z trudnymi pasażerami, z służbami bezpieczeństwa i celnikami, którzy patrzą na ręce, z chorobami, ze strachem o życie swoje i koleżanek. To także codzienne wybory czy zapisać się do partii, czy dorobić, czyli przemycać, uciec z Polski, czy jednak zostać z rodziną? Stewardesy pracujące w Polskich Liniach Lotniczych LOT w czasach PRL-u przez lata milczały. Niedoceniane, często pomijane w historii polskiego lotnictwa opowiadają, jak naprawdę wyglądało ich życie. Mówią o marzeniach, wolności, samodzielności i o cenie, jaką musiały za nie zapłacić. Wydawać by się mogło, że sama przyjemność życie w podróży, i to jeszcze w czasach, gdy jeździł mało kto. Świetne zarobki pensja wprawdzie była niska, ale z Nowego Jorku można było przywieźć dżinsy, z Kairu buty, a z pokładu zwędzić kawior i jakoś wyjść na swoje. Wokół masa wpływowych ważniaków i miłe słowo od Micka Jaggera. Anna Sulińska nie dała się zwieść. Latanie to była nobilitacja, usłyszała setki razy, postanowiła więc sprawdzić owej nobilitacji cenę. Opisała upokorzenia, codzienne ryzyko i niecodzienne niebezpieczeństwa, porwania i katastrofy, wreszcie morderczo ciężką pracę. W lataniu opanowanie to połowa zwycięstwa, powtarzała charyzmatyczna szefowa stewardes w latach sześćdziesiątych. W pisaniu o stewardesach co najmniej połowa sukcesu to cierpliwość. Sulińska ma jej nieskończone, "nomen omen", pokłady. To pozwoliło jej dotrzeć do kobiet, które nawykły do życia w cieniu i wcale nie zamierzały z niego wychodzić, namówić je na opowieści, pokazanie dzienników i dokumentów. Odnalazła raporty donosicieli SB, niepublikowane relacje pilotów i kuriozalne porady z branżowej prasy. Ta utrzymywała lotniczy świat w przeświadczeniu, że zgrabna, ładna i uśmiechnięta stewardesa to gwarancja przyjemnej podróży, i doradzała, żeby zawsze pamiętały, by się ładnie umalować.
