But, most importantly: the time is now different, and the passions and vices are the same.

The book is interesting because it has a much darker and more thoughtful implication than it might seem. On the one hand, the novel reveals the history of the war, and on the other, a pretty love story. Most of the novel is built on dialogues, through which we learn about the feelings that the characters are going through. The plot of the novel is dynamic, readers can read it in one breath.

The Obeah Murders

The novel begins with the fact that Phil Nevitt, an employee of an American alcoholic beverage company, goes to Annunziata, the mythical island of Futners creation in the West Indies, to learn everything he can about the Randall Trantora rum. The Obeah Murders show their fantastic roots with so many genre influences (spy, western, adventure, supernatural and detective). In the end, however, the race issue was the most surprising and, ultimately, the most important aspect of the book. More Footner reviews will appear later this summer.

After his death, Weinbaum became science fictions first cult author; Dawn of Flame appeared as the title piece of a 1936 memorial story collection, while The Black Flame was the lead feature in the January 1939 debut issue of Startling Stories.
