W książce przedstawiono mało znaną, a istotną sferę działalności Oskara Haleckiego, profesora Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego, jednego z najbardziej znanych na forum międzynarodowym historyków polskich XX w. Scharakteryzowano jego poglądy na temat Ligi Narodów z punktu widzenia katolickiego intelektualisty oraz ukazano działalność uczonego w tej organizacji na rzecz międzynarodowej współpracy intelektualnej. Od początku lat dwudziestych Halecki zyskał duże uznanie współpracujących z nim w Lidze Narodów intelektualistów wielu krajów oraz władz organizacji. Wykazywał niezwykłą aktywność, inwencję i gorliwość w wypełnianiu powierzonych mu zadań. Atutem profesora w działalności na forum międzynarodowym była też doskonała znajomość kilku języków obcych. W monografii wykorzystano nieprzytaczane do tej pory źródła - dokumenty Ligi Narodów, korespondencję prywatną i oficjalną, materiały wspomnieniowe oraz bogatą publicystykę profesora na temat instytucji genewskiej z okresu międzywojennego, II wojny światowej i kolejnych lat emigracji. Dzięki temu poznajemy inny obraz profesora Haleckiego jako zwolennika Ligi Narodów, którą od samego początku uważał za instytucję zgodną z chrześcijańską koncepcją organizacji międzynarodowej i z przekonaniem zaangażował się w jej działalność.
