The monograph is concerned with the phenomenon of transition to adulthood of young Poles and reaching the stage of completed adulthood, i.e. being economically and socially independent. The study is the first comprehensive presentation of this complex process in Poland by applying a sociological perspective, public policies analysis, assessments of young adults and representatives of institutions providing support for various life difficulties. The monograph is based primarily on qualitative (narrative and group interviews) and quantitative (statistical) data. The publication has a scientific and applied character. Dostosowanie się pacjenta do zaleceń lekarza stanowi klucz do osiągnięcia założonych celów terapeutycznych. Jednocześnie wiele obserwacji wskazuje, że niedokładne przestrzeganie zaleceń czy jego brak stanowi istotny problem praktyczny. Znaczenie może mieć wiele elementów postępowania - od komunikacji z pacjentem przez uciążliwość dolegliwości związanych z samą chorobą po formy terapii i częstość jej stosowania. Wykazano, że tzw. Oporność na niektóre leki jest w zanzcnej mierze związana z compliance pacjenta. Niniejsza monografia w sposób przyjazny przybliża tę tematykę. Omawia definicję compliance, adherence i concordance, czynniki wpływające na nieprzestrzeganie zaleceń terapeutycznych, tłumaczy, na czym polega współpraca pacjenta z lekarzem i czym jest opieka skoncentrowana na relacji, a także wskazuje, w jaki sposób można oceniać jakość współpracy pacjenta z lekarzem.

Dokonania w zakresie medycyny sprawiły, że leczenie pacjentów z chorobami przewlekłymi, takimi jak cukrzyca, jest coraz skuteczniejsze i zapewnia wyższą jakość życia. Zainspirowani wynikami uzyskanymi w kontrolowanych warunkach badań klinicyści często jednak zderzają się z sytuacją, w której nowy lek nie daje takich wyników, jak opisywane. Brak skuteczności zwykle łatwo wytłumaczyć: tylko leki przyjmowane zgodnie z zaleceniami działają. Z tego powodu poza przepisaniem skutecznego preparatu lekarz powinien zadbać o nawiązanie właściwej relacji komunikacyjnej z pacjentem. Zaprezentowane w niniejszej książce wskazówki pozwolą Czytelnikowi lepiej zrozumieć potrzeby chorego na cukrzycę i odpowiedzieć na nie w postaci indywidualizacji terapii. W monografii przedstawiono rezultaty badań nad rzeczownikami złożonymi oraz zestawieniami (tj. wielowyrazowymi połączeniami o charakterze leksemów frazowych, czyli leksemów nieciągłych) w języku angielskim oraz polskim. Szczególną uwagę poświęcono połączeniom przymiotnikowo-rzeczownikowym zawierającym przymiotniki klasyfikujące. Zbadano wewnętrzną spójność zestawień oraz stopień widoczności ich składników dla operacji składniowych. Ukazano nieostrość granicy pomiędzy złożeniami właściwymi i wielowyrazowymi jednostkami leksykalnymi. Podkreślono interakcję pomiędzy procesami słowotwórczymi oraz składniowymi.
