Earl Derr Biggers
No sooner had Bob from the Silver Star ranch reached Italy than a telegram arrived asking for $1,000. A pretty woman was behind it, but that wasnt all. This early work by Earl Derr Biggers was originally published in 1916. The Ebony Stick is one of Biggers shorter stories, published after his death. The son of Robert J. and Emma E. (Derr) Biggers, Earl Derr Biggers was born in Warren, Ohio, and graduated from Harvard University in 1907. While on holiday in Hawaii, Biggers heard tales of a real-life Chinese detective operating in Honolulu, named Chang Apana. This inspired him to create his most enduring legacy in the character of super-sleuth Charlie Chan. Many of his plays and novels were made into movies.

The game begins with Praxagora leaving the house on the Athenian street before dawn. She wears a fake beard and mens clothes, and she carries a cane and a lit lamp. A chorus of Athenian women enter one on one, all dressed in a similar costume. In order to be more convincingly courageous, some women developed tans and stopped shaving armpits. One woman brings a full basket of yarn in order to get the job done, as the assembly replenishes, to which Praxagora reports to her for this decision, as this will ruin their cover.

Powieści te krytycznie przyglądają się biblijnym mitom/mitowi Biblii, próbując tak je zrewidować, aby wykorzystać je do mniej dogmatycznego, bardziej płynnego wyobrażenia wspólnoty. The Eclipse of Value-Free Economics. The concept of multiple self versus homo economicus

The books’ goal is to answer the question: Do the weaknesses of value-free economics imply the need for a paradigm shift? The author synthesizes criticisms from different perspectives (descriptive and methodological). Special attention is paid to choices over time, because in this area value-free economics has the most problems. In that context, the enriched concept of multiple self is proposed and investigated. However, it is not enough to present the criticisms towards value-free economics. For scientists, a bad paradigm is better than no paradigm. Therefore, the author considers whether value-based economics with normative approaches such as economics of happiness, capability approach, libertarian paternalism, and the concept of multiple self can be the alternative paradigm for value-free economics. This book is essential reading to everyone interested in the current state of economics as a discipline.

The publication presents an evaluation of the ecological role of abandoned agricultural lands which exist around the seven landscape parks in the Łódź Voivodeship. In thirty-nine land abandonment study plots, arranged into thirteen groups, agrophysical and agrochemical analyses were conducted as well as phytosociological and mycological inventorying, in order to determine the relationships between the vegetation and macromycetes fungi and the abiotic features of the natural environment. The role of geocomplex potential, the influence of adjacent urbanised areas and the development of touristic functions in rural areas were demonstrated in the spatial pattern of abandoned lands. The research revealed a high diversity of vegetation, flora and macromycetes fungi, vulnerability to the impact from the neighbouring habitats and the importance of abandoned lands as refugia of species which enrich the biodiversity. At the same time, attention was drawn to invasive plant species of non-native origin, which may pose a threat to the natural phytocoenoses of protected areas.

Odpowiedź ta została udzielona w niniejszej książce poprzez analizę przeprowadzonych badań socjologicznych wśród studentów wyższych uczelni czterech krajów partnerskich Polski, Republiki Czeskiej, Słowacji, i Węgier. Zostały one przeprowadzone i wsparte finansowo w ramach Visegrad Standard Grant: „The economic awareness of the young generation of Visegrad countries” nr. 21420008. Brali w nich udział partnerzy czterech uczelni : Uniwersytetu Śląskiego w Katowicach, Uniwersytetu Palackeho w Ołomuńcu (Republika Czeska), Uniwersytetu Konstantyna Filozofa w Nitrze (Słowacja) i Szent Istvan University w Gódólló (Węgry). Dodatkowo badania również przeprowadziły pracownice Katedry Socjologii Uniwersytetu Ostrawskiego (Republika Czeska). W monografii najpierw omówione są założenia teoretyczne badań. Przedstawiona jest definicja i rozumienie świadomości ekonomicznej oraz metodologiczne podstawy badań. W następnych rozdziałach, zgodnie z modelem teoretycznym badań Autorzy przedstawiają: system wartości i wiedzę ekonomiczną studentów, wartość pracy i jej cechy, mobilność wewnętrzną i zagraniczną w celu podjęcia pracy, przedsiębiorczość, wartość pieniędzy i oszczędności, postawy wobec bogactwa i biedy oraz konsumpcję. Autorzy dokonują analiz przekrojowych, każdy z nich przedstawiając swój fragment badań, analizuje odpowiedzi respondentów wszystkich krajów V4. W Zakończeniu zarysowany jest syntetyczny stan świadomości ekonomicznej młodego pokolenia krajów V4.
