Max Brand (1892-1944) is the best-known pen name of widely acclaimed author Frederick Faust, creator of Destry, Dr. Kildare, an extremely popular fictional character, and other beloved fictional characters. Prolific in many genres he wrote historical novels, detective mysteries, pulp fiction stories and many more. His love for mythology was a constant source of inspiration for his fiction, and it has been speculated that these classical influences accounted in some part for his success as a popular writer. Jericos Garrison Finish is one of his great novels.

Jerry z wysp została pierwotnie opublikowana w 1917 roku i jest jednym z ostatnich dzieł Jacka Londona. Często w wydaniach anglojęzycznych ma również podtytuł "Prawdziwa psia opowieść", który również zdecydowaliśmy się dodać. Powieść rozgrywa się na wyspie Malaita, części archipelagu Wysp Salomona, która w 1893 roku stała się brytyjskim protektoratem. Bohaterem powieści jest irlandzki terier Jerry. Jerry urodził się na wyspie Santa Isabel, należącej do archipelagu Wysp Salomona. Właścicielem Jerry'ego był pan Haggin, który pracował jako strażnik plantacji i używał Jerry'ego do ścigania zbiegłych niewolników. Haggin podarował Jerry'ego panu Van Hornowi, kapitanowi statku Arangi. Statek dostarcza niewolników oraz handluje towarami z krajowcami na wyspie Malaita, która uchodzi za bardzo niebezpieczną i zamieszkałą przez ludożerców. Także niektórzy członkowie załogi są nieprzychylni Jerry'emu. Jak potoczą się jego dalsze losy?
