Jest to historia młodzieńca, który szuka prawdy w naturze i zwraca się przeciwko materializacji wszelkich aspektów życia. Tą książką, opublikowaną w 1904 roku, krytycy i czytelnicy zachwycili się na samym początku drogi twórczej Hermanna Hessego, mimo że była debiutem literackim nikomu nieznanego autora. Wielki sukces sprawił, że Hesse stał się sławny i poczytny i mógł się poświęcić tylko literaturze.
Platon
Phedon to utwór Platona, filozofa greckiego, ateńczyka, twórcy tradycji intelektualnej znanej jako platonizm. Akcja rozpoczyna się w więzieniu, gdzie Sokrates oczekuje na wykonanie wyroku śmierci. Dialog kończy się opisem śmierci Sokratesa, za jego najważniejszą część należy uznać mowę pożegnalną skierowaną do uczniów, w której filozof przedstawia dowody na nieśmiertelność duszy i swoje poglądy na śmierć.

Periodyk „Philosophy and Canon Law” stanowi otwarte interdyscyplinarne forum wymiany myśli filozofów i prawników (kanonistów), nie wyłączając przedstawicieli innych dyscyplin naukowych. Mierzenie się z problemami podejmowanymi w rocznikach tematycznych jest – z samego założenia – próbą odpowiedzi na palące problemy dynamicznie zmieniającego się świata: społeczne, religijne, kulturowe i cywilizacyjne. Ramy przedmiotowej refleksji zakreśla, zaznaczona tytułem pierwszego tomu czasopisma, paradygmatyczna triada: człowiek (osoba) – rodzina – społeczeństwo, której źródłem inspiracji jest najważniejszy dokument Soboru Watykańskiego II: konstytucja Gaudium et spes. Inicjatywa znajduje oparcie w instytucjonalnej współpracy naukowców, głównie centralnej Europy i Stanów Zjednoczonych. The periodical “Philosophy and Canon Law” constitutes an open interdisciplinary forum for the exchange of philosophers and lawyers’ (canonists’) reflections, including representatives of different fields of study. Coping with the issues undertaken in thematic annuals is―from its very assumption―an attempt to provide an answer to complex problems of the dynamically changing world: social, religious, cultural, and civilizational. The confines of the subject matter reflection are delineated by a marked by the means of the title of the first volume of the periodical triad: human being (person)―family―society, the source of inspiration of which is the most important document of the Second Vatican Council: Gaudium et spes constitution. The initiative garners support from the institutional cooperation of scientists, chiefly from Europe and the United States of America.

The works contained in the volume pertain to very diverse topics, and for this reason the content of the book is divided into four chapters. Chapter one includes essays which present Kotarbinski’s life and scientific work. The second chapter concentrates on some theoretical problems of knowledge and epistemology. In the third chapter, different problems of ethics, religion and theory of action are discussed. Chapter four focuses on contemporary problems in social sciences and humanities and the state of affairs in those fields. The volume juxtaposes various current philosophical problems in a most impressive way.
