Znów spędza całe dnie z ojcem dziwakiem oraz z jego współpracownikami niższymi urzędnikami kolejowymi i ich rodzinami. Trzyma się z dala od pożądanej kiedyś, a dziś znienawidzonej sceny. Wokół dziewczyny krąży dawny adorator Andrzej, kiedyś z pogardą odrzucony z racji swego chłopskiego pochodzenia i braku wyższych potrzeb duchowych. Jest nadal wierny, pokorny i czuły. Janka zdaje sobie sprawę z tego, że oferuje przynajmniej stabilizację materialną, która uchroni ją od poniewierki, gdy skończą się oszczędności ojca. Dziewczyna powoli zaczyna przekonywać samą siebie, że dokonuje właściwego kroku. Ale w okolicznym światku czyha niejeden intrygant, gotów rozerwać ten wątły związek przed jego prawnym usankcjonowaniem. Ot tak, dla wyszydzenia komediantki, której się wydawało, że złamie odwiecznie usankcjonowany obyczaj i zechce sama kierować swoim losem. I znowu Janka zacznie się zastanawiać, czy nie posłuchać namowy dawnego znajomego, nie spróbować jeszcze raz przygody z teatrem...

A captivating story about human emotions and relations, set in the year 1820. Balzac narrates the tale of a man who suspects his wife of infidelity. He shows how relationships can suffer through miscommunication. Balzac proves himself as an author above par by his insightful exploration of the fear of social failure and the way it defines and governs the pattern of human life. Possessed with a wide and free-ranging curiosity, Morrison wrote both fiction and nonfiction works on diverse subjects, from Japanese art to occultism, and participated in English literary life well into World War II. In 1930 Arthur Morrison moved to Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire. In 1933 he published the short story collection Fiddle o Dreams and More. This collection of mystery and detective fiction contains: Billy Blenkins Radium, Frenzied Finance, Infantry at the Double, Sports of Mugby, The Thing in the Upper Room and others. And why are there fifty candles on the birthday cake, when old Drew was pushing seventy?

In the ensuing gun fight, Wally is shot in both shoulders. Subsequently, the sheriff advices Jingo that Wallys older brother will probably be hunting for him. A game of cat and mouse begins. One of many recommended westerns by Frederick Schiller Faust.

There are others: Jimmys Brother, The Christmas Cup, The Man In The Golf Hut, A Romance In Brown, The Perfect Gentleman, Kid-Glove Harry, Nig-Nog. Edgar Wallace was a British author who is best known for creating King Kong. Wallace was a very prolific writer despite his sudden death at age 56. In total Wallace is credited with over 170 novels, almost 1,000 short stories, and 18 stage plays. Wallaces works have been turned into well over 100 films.

Tak jak w pozostałych główną postacią jest Sokrates, który tutaj dyskutuje z Filebem o tym, czy najwyższe dobro polega na przyjemności, czy na mądrości. Z dialogu wynika, że ani przyjemność, ani wiedza same w sobie nie mogą być dobre, a dobro stanowi połączenie obu. Rozmówcy spierają się o to, która składowa powinna dominować w tym połączeniu i je określać. Sokrates wyraża pogląd zbieżny z przekonaniem samego Platona że to wiedza powinna być ograniczeniem dla przyjemności.

Autor swoje dzieło zadedykował królowi Stanisławowi Augustowi Poniatowskiemu, który najprawdopodobniej pojawił się na premierze scenicznej w 1781 roku.
