The plot is well constructed with well drawn subsidiary characters and provides a number of interesting twists and turns. The journey is the entertaining part. Highly recommended, especially for those who love the Old Western genre. No pulp writer was more prolific than Frederick Faust, who wrote nearly 15 million words under the pen name of Max Brand and seventeen others. He sold all his stories and sometimes wrote complete issues of Western Story Magazine.

Hard Times is a very tragic and wonderfully described story of human oppression. Dickenss brilliant use of characterization can be seen in high form here and as always, his naming of his storys populace is entertaining by itself.

Hawks and Eagles is the authors classic. The brand is a great storyteller who shows his enthusiasm for humans and animals, such characters as a professor, a small dog, and Mole. Joe Good, the protagonist, hes twenty years old. His father was killed by the richest man in the city, because he wants a good ranch not to be. A good, lazy, prickly guy who lacks a sense of respect and respect for everyone in the city. The only thing he can do is to handle a whip with such skill that he becomes almost alive. This story is also a story of the growth of kindness to become the most respected person in his community.

Hawks of Outremer is a tight tale. The main character is Cormac FitzGeoffrey, a bastard Norman-Gael who has thrown his lot in with the Crusaders. Once a loose peace was established in Outremer, Cormac returned to Ireland but after a short stint fighting, peace broke out there, too. Cormac returns to the Holy Land (Outremer) seeking to attach himself to a liege, only to learn that his liege of choice has been assassinated. Plots are afoot between Muslims and Christian lords who want nothing to do with Saladin nor European kings. Rather than jeopardize the peace with an armed force, FitzGeoffrey vows vengeance and embarks solo to deal death to those who deserve it.
