Max Brand
Rodeo Ranch has earned its name from the rodeo that the wealthy, aged Ramon Alvarez sponsors there. An attempt has been made on Alvarezs life, and Alvarez believes his would-be killer is a member of a secret league bent on his destruction. He approaches Duds Kobbe, winner of the rodeos shooting competition, and offers him a job as a personal bodyguard, promising a fabulous reward for doing the job. The only catch is that, while employed, Kobbe cannot leave the Alvarez estate. What Kobbe doesnt realize is that he will be just as much a target as Alvarez. It is a short novel of murder and redemption, presents some intriguing plotting as a wealthy and fearful landowner hires a gunslinger as a bodyguard, with unexpected results.
Henry James
Roderick Hudson is the first novel by Henry James. Although Roderick was a poor man, but he had a great talent, about which he was not even aware. In the afternoon, he was an ordinary student, and after university he was an outstanding sculptor. One day, by a happy coincidence, he meets the wealthy connoisseur of Rowland Mullet, a man who recognizes his genius and becomes his mentor.
Arthur Conan Doyle
As well as penning some of the most popular detective fiction, Conan Doyle also wrote thrilling adventure stories. Rodney Stone is a combination of both. Nelson, Beau Brummell, Fox and King George III himself appear in a tale at the heart of which is, as one character says, a pretty conspiracy a criminal, an actress and a prize-fighter, all playing their parts. The book is narrated by Rodney, in 1851 thinking back over the events 1803, when Rodney was 17 and his best friend, Boy Jim, was 19. This is the year Rodneys uncle comes to introduce the boy to London society. Sir Charles is a dandy, and a friend of Beau Brummell and the Prince of Wales. But Rodneys father has hopes for his son going into the Royal Navy. Boy Jim also has a life decision to make. He has been raised by Champion Harrison as a blacksmith, but after befriending an alcoholic ex-actress, he yearns to see more of the world, at least London.
Joseph Roth
Henryk Sienkiewicz
Historia miłości Stanisława Połanieckiego i pięknej Maryni Pławickiej, osadzona w scenerii ziemiańskich dworków i Warszawy z końca XIX wieku. Rodzina Połanieckich to jedna z nielicznych w dorobku Sienkiewicza powieści o tematyce współczesnej.
Hugh Walpole
This chronicle tells of several generations of a family that lives in the Lake District in England, dating back to the late seventeen hundred. Hughs descriptions of this area are excellent. He had such a great love for him that he conveyed a great sense of his presence throughout all four novels. His characters also become so alive for the reader, because, I think, he is completely immersed in them.
Zane Grey
Zane Gray had a hut on the Robber, and his affection and passion for this epic river make her the main theme of the book.It is the best writing about the Rogue that has been done before or since and poetically and descriptively traces the river from its birth below Crater Lake to its dispersal into the Pacific and then picks up a school of salmon and takes them all the way back up the river to spawn. Environmental organizations attempting to save Northwest salmon should be handing Rogue River Feud to anyone who will take a copy.
