To tajemnicze stworzenie pobudza wyobraźnię i stało się inspiracją wielu gałęzi sztuki, [w ostatnich czasach zwłaszcza filmowej]. Jednakże, pomimo wielkiego znaczenia przywiązywanego do smoka, bardzo niewiele zostało napisane na jego temat, zarówno w języku chińskim, jak i angielskim. Znajomość ludzi i języka chińskiego umożliwiła autorowi dotarcie do oryginalnych źródeł i zbadanie tematu pod każdym kątem. Być może ostatnie słowo na temat chińskiego smoka nie zostało jeszcze powiedziane, niemniej jednak można śmiało powiedzieć, że ta rozprawa jest tak kompletna, jak tylko pozwala na to nasza obecna wiedza. Ten mały tom powinien być wartościowy dla wszystkich, którzy w jakikolwiek sposób są zainteresowani Chinami, zaś relacja o smoku będzie wartościowa nie tylko dla obcokrajowców, ale także dla samych Chińczyków. Autor uczynił z tego studium swoją wieloletnią pasję i rezultat jego badań jest wspaniałym wkładem do literatury o Chinach. Byłoby dobrze, gdyby więcej osób zajęło się w ten sam sposób badaniem innych elementów chińskiego życia i dzięki temu pomogło w interpretacji całokształtu chińskiej kultury na Zachodzie.
