Na publikację składają się wybrane referaty spośród wygłoszonych podczas konferencji naukowej pt. „Autonomia woli w prawie prywatnym międzynarodowym i arbitrażu”,  która zorganizowana została przez Koło Naukowe Prawa Prywatnego Międzynarodowego i Arbitrażu przy Katedrze Prawa Cywilnego i Prawa Prywatnego Międzynarodowego Wydziału Prawa i Administracji Uniwersytetu Śląskiego. Autorzy podejmują rozważania nad współczesnym statusem zasady autonomii woli w prawie prywatnym międzynarodowym i w prawie sądownictwa polubownego. Właściwie ze wszystkich artykułów wyłania się przekonanie, iż współczesne prawo kolizyjne jest polem ścierania się dwóch przeciwstawnych tendencji. Z jednej strony dostrzegalna jest ekspansja zasady autonomii woli na obszary, w których tradycyjnie nie była ona respektowana. Z drugiej – w sferze zobowiązań umownych, gdzie zasada ta trwale wpisała się w tradycje prawa kolizyjnego, dostrzega się zjawisko przeciwne, które jest wyrazem przekonania, że kolizyjnoprawna autonomia woli stron musi  podlegać pewnym ograniczeniom. Analogiczne wyzwania stają przed współczesnym prawem sądownictwa polubownego, pomimo że wyrasta ono z zasady autonomii woli i jest wyrazem jej najwyższego poszanowania. Książka będzie zapewne wartościową i użyteczną publikacją dla przedstawicieli doktryny prawa kolizyjnego i prawa sądownictwa polubownego, jak również dla praktyki prawniczej.
