The Little Green Man and Other Stories
The Little Green Man and Other Stories is an excellent collection of mystery stories by Edgar Wallace. These are fast-paced, with good twists and turns, an unusual criminal scheme and a little romance. Edgar Wallace was a British novelist, playwright, and journalist who produced popular detective and suspense stories and was in his time "the king" of the modern thriller. Wallaces literary output 175 books, 24 plays, and countless articles and review sketches have undermined his reputation as a fresh and original writer. Moreover, the author was a wholehearted supporter of Victorian and early Edwardian values and mores, which are now considered in some respects politically incorrect. In England, in the 1920s, Wallace was said to be the second biggest seller after the Bible.
At Sydneys scandalous Artists Ball... a gunshot... a falling body... Call Inspector Knox of the CIB. The Little Grey Woman is rather short story and moves along very quickly but theres plenty of tension and some genuinely creepy moments. Recommended for lovers of the offbeat. The Artists Ball was a real, and occasionally scandalous, costume ball held in Sydney for many years. Aidan de Brune walked round Australia in two years, and so he is able to give a thoroughly Australian setting and sentiment to this yarn full of thrills. These problems are raised in the opening chapters of the book. Lovers of a clever detective yarn will need to be certain of the delivery of their papers.
The Little Lady of the Big House
This is the story of a love triangle between Dick Forrest, a wealthy landowner and a great businessman, his wife Paola and friend Graham, who came to visit them, so to speak. A lot of people gather at Forrest Estate. Among them are vagabond philosophers who live in the land of Dick, artists, musicians, etc. And among the constant dinners, entertainment, etc., fateful events take place.
The Little Lady of the Big House
“The Little Lady of the Big House” is a book by Jack London, an American novelist. A pioneer of commercial fiction and an innovator in the genre that would later become known as science fiction. The Little Lady of the Big House is a novel by American writer Jack London. It was his last novel to be published during his lifetime. The story concerns a love triangle. The protagonist, Dick Forrest, is a rancher with a poetic streak. His wife, Paula, is a vivacious, athletic, and sexually self-aware woman, who falls in love with Evan Graham, an old friend of her husband.
This is an adventure thriller about independence. The protagonist fights for the freedom of the United States, as well as for the love of his life. If you are a fan of the historical adventure novel, then this book is for you.
The Live Corpse. A Play in Six Acts
In the play The Living Corpse, the famous Russian writer L.N. Tolstoy appears as a playwright. It is filled with intense psychological collisions, complex images of heroes, ambiguous and with that vitally revealed throughout the whole story. And, as always, the themes of love, kindness and human destiny are in the foreground. The play is based on real events, it was popular at the beginning of the 20th century, when it was translated into foreign languages, put on stages, filmed.
The tales of James Allison take place both in modern times and in the far past, in that time after the Hyborian kingdoms of Conan. Allison is a crippled Texan who lost a leg when his horse fell on him. To escape boredom and sadness he ventures into the past, exploring his previous lives as mighty warriors. All these ancestors were members of a migration of Aryans as they traveled the world in search of a homeland.
Mark was an engineer and is currently out of work. The landscape was colorless and dreary, but Mark was young, and after the pulsating workshop he liked the space and tranquility. The Croziers owned the soil they cultivated on the hills. They held tenaciously everything that belongs to them
The Lone House Mystery and Other Stories
Edgar Wallace, author of The Lone House Mystery, was a celebrated British author in the early twentieth century. Over 160 of his novels have been made into films, and he is known especially for his part in writing the story for the movie King Kong. The dead man was rich. In life he lived in a lonely house by a river. In the earth outside it is the imprint of a bare foot. His secretary, with whom he was having an affair, is locked in a room. The key is in the dead mans pocket. Superintendent Minter considers it a most queer and unsatisfactory case. A thrilling, thoroughly intriguing tale of double murder and love. This collection also includes the following short stories: Clues, The Sooper Speaking, and Romance In It.
The Lone Star Ranger is a 1915 Western novel by American author Zane Grey. Set in Texas, the story revolves around the exploits of a band of Texas Rangers and Buck Duane, an outlaw on a quest for redemption. A captain of the Texas Rangers offers him a pardon and a rangers badge if he will infiltrate the gang of the shadowy figure known as Cheseldine who wields vast power in West Texas, and make it possible for the Rangers to break the gangs hold on the regions towns. Duane accepts, never guessing in his wildest nightmares that he would sniff out this Cheseldine, his hideouts, his lieutenants... and fall in love with his daughter! There is plenty of action and gunplay, but The Lone Star Ranger has an emotional and psychological depth that really elucidated the mentality of the lone wolf outlaw and driven Texas ranger.
This book is more a study of character than a mysterious genre by which the character is otherwise known. The book begins with the interaction of the characters with a love story, which leads to an unexpected meeting. In the end, there is a surprise involving several characters, but this should be opened by another reader.
The Lonely Bride has it all: money, murder and marriages made / broken out of blackmail. All events revolve around the desired bachelor, Stephen Rice. His millionaire father wants to hand over his business to his son. Poor Grace was blackmailed by marrying a terrible person, Stephen Rice, then she tries to find ways to get out of it, but every undone burden will also be connected with a terrible secret.
B. M. Bower, was an American author who wrote novels, fictional short stories, and screenplays about the American Old West. This is one of her stories. In her prolific career as a writer of many classic Westerns, the most beloved characters ever created by author B. M. Bower were the happy but hardscrabble crew of the Flying U ranch. The Lonesome Trail catches up with the band of cowhands and ranchers as some of them have grown weary of range life and have decided to forge a path for themselves in the big city. Here we meet Will Weary Davidson, his co-workers (known collectively as The Happy Family) and his horse Glory. Glory has a major role to play in this story.
This is another collection of short stories by Edward Phillips Oppenheim, the prolific English novelist who was in his lifetime a major and successful writer of genre fiction including thrillers and spy novels, and who wrote over a 100 of them. He was the self-styled prince of storytellers, generally regarded as the earliest writer of spy fiction as we know it today, and invented the Rogue Male school of adventure thrillers. His plotting is as smooth as silk, with the virtue of creating believable characters of genuine sophistication and wit. This book is a revenge story with each chapter describing how Mannister takes care of the different people who wronged him. Wonderful entertainment and highly entertaining.
This work is written not in the traditional western spirit. We are talking about a mercenary who guardes the Chandlers shop with a gun. When the marshal himself said that I was no other than the murderer, I told him that I would leave Bostwick and try to start a new life without a gun. This is a great nigga, recommended for those who are looking for something else in the western genre.
Frederick Schiller Faust (May 29, 1892 May 12, 1944) was an American author known primarily for his thoughtful and literary westerns under the pen name Max Brand. He was known for going well beyond the formulaic western. The Long Long Trail is an excellent example of his craft. This is a story about desperate men and the gun code they live by. Since Jess Deer avenged his fathers murder, hed been a lone outlaw eluding Sheriff Caswell. But a woman in need of help changes all of that when Jess sets out to find and destroy a hired gunslinger.
