The Stretelli Case and Other Mystery Stories
This early work by Edgar Wallace was originally published in 1930. The Stretelli Case and Other Mystery Stories is a collection of short stories, some also published in other collections of Wallaces works. This volume includes: Code No. 2, Red Beard, The Man Who Killed Himself, The Mediaeval Mind, and many more. This is a nice collection of eleven short stories loosely classified as mysteries; while thriller elements are certainly present in most of them, the stories, with one exception, are indeed mysteries of one sort or another. Several stories feature detectives per se; most of them have people under pressure who must decipher baffling situations in order to correct deformations in the social structure.
1931 Edgar Wallace novel. The story begins with following the Arranway family and various people that touch their life. Sketchley, where the Coat of Arms roadhouse stands, is a place of strange happenings. A complicated trail of theft, arson and blackmail culminates in murder at the Coat of Arms roadhouse and T. B. Collett, the crack Scotland Yard detective, must cope with a cast of stock company suspects and an incompetent local detective. Little by little you can see that pretty much everyone had a reason to kill the victim. This is a dandy story with all the Golden Age mystery elements.
Wrapped in furs until only my nose and eyes were visible, I was walking along the Nevski Prospekt in St. Petersburg one winters evening, and almost involuntarily turned into the Dominique, that fashionable restaurant which, garish in its blaze of electricity, is situated in the most frequented part of the long, broad thoroughfare. It was the dining-hour, and the place, heated by high, grotesquely-ornamented stoves, was filled with officers, ladies, and cigarette smoke, while the savoury smell of national dishes mingled judiciously with those of foreign lands.
Arizona Jim Silver had to find Rap Bender, Judge Benders missing son - the same Rap Bender who had joined guns with Silvers oldest and deadliest enemy. But when the legendary Silvertip finally caught up with Bender, they shared a common enemy - ever since Benders partner double-crossed him by trying to kidnap his woman. Now it was up to the two men to catch the man Silver had pledged to kill - for Silvers honor and his life. "Silver Tip" is a series of Western novels written by the very prolific author (one of the most prolific author of all time) named Frederick Faust. The novels are published, like most of Fausts work, under the Max Brand pen name.
O. Henry is the pen name of American writer William Sydney Porter (1862-1910). Porters 400 short stories are known for their wit, wordplay, characterization and the clever use of twist endings. He needs no introduction of course; the man who made the short story with the surprise ending famous. These 16 stories are all wonderful examples of his word sculpting art. They include: The Rose of Dixie, The Third Ingredient, The Hiding of Black Bill, Schools and Schools, Thimble, Thimble, Supply and Demand, Buried Treasure, To Him Who Waits, He Also Serves, The Moment of Victory, The Head-Hunter, A Poor Rule and others. O. Henry has a very unique and amusing style, with a dry sense of humor running through all the stories. Originally published in 1897, this early work is a fascinating novel of the period and still an interesting read today.
John Workmann, der Zeitungsboy
John Workmann der Zeitungsboy ist ein 1909 veröffentlichtes Jugendbuch des Autors Hans Dominik. John Workmann beginnt in New York als Zeitungsboy.
Opowiadanie o Kasztelu
Gracie Allen in this case is not a famous artist, but a worker in a perfume factory. She involuntarily gives the enchanted Philo Vance all the important clues in this murder of a gangster, in those days when Riverdale in the Bronx was a rural paradise. Vance meets her when she interacts with nature, and then again in a trendy restaurant where her brother plays an important role. For a moment, her mother appears, a gentle, faded lady who turns out to be as sharp as Gracie.
Morrisons literary reputation is mostly based on his realistic novels and short stories about slum life in London. In addition, he wrote detective fiction that is openly derivative of Arthur Conan Doyles Sherlock Holmes stories. Possessed with a wide and free-ranging curiosity, Morrison wrote both fiction and nonfiction works on diverse subjects, from Japanese art to occultism, and participated in English literary life well into World War II. In 1930 Arthur Morrison moved to Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire. In 1933 he published the short story collection Fiddle o Dreams and More. This collection of mystery and detective fiction contains: Billy Blenkins Radium, Frenzied Finance, Infantry at the Double, Sports of Mugby, The Thing in the Upper Room and others. Highly recommended!
Wellss treatise on education is set in the region of Camford (Cambridge/Oxford), and tells of a visitor who proves that education can save the world from destruction. The story centres around a Utopian ventriloquist who subjects human life and in particular its treatment by the University of Camford to sympathetic but quite unsparing scrutiny. At its core, it was a warning to the educational world of imminent war and of its lack of action, as well as an exploration of the place of education in society. Contents include: Mr Trumbers Experience, In the Cramb Meadows, Mr Preeders Pigeon-holes, The Communist Party is Annoyed in its Turn, Congregation Day, and The Healing Touch in History. In this short tale of 75 pages Wells summarises many of his current preoccupations in the form of a parable which is noteworthy for its careful building up of atmosphere and its lively and biting characterisations.

The book tells about the Neanderthal tribe: life, hunting, customs, their relationship. The life of ancient people is difficult and full of hardships, but they are happy. Their happiness is in unity. There is a clash with others. Neanderthals are at a lower stage of development, but they recognize themselves as people: they have a language, they care for the elderly and children, maintain fire, bury the dead... But the principle of Others The strongest survives; Kill before they kill you. It is not difficult to guess whose heirs are humanity.
Powieść Witkacego, której głównym bohaterem jest Genezyp Kapen de Vahaz. Poznajemy go, gdy wkracza w dorosłość i usiłuje budować samodzielne życie. Poszukuje w nim sensu i treści, usiłując zaspokoić tytułowe nienasycenie.
