Haggard explores love, friendship, and women during an adventure across the Atlantic and South America. In The Virgin of the Sun, the author also explores the Inca myth associated with the rise of one of Americas greatest pre-Columbian leaders, Pachacuti. After several small adventures and misfortunes, our hero, Hubert, meets and befriends a strange man from a strange land. This story is filled with murder, intrigue, adventure and betrayal. It will definitely be remembered by readers for a long time.
Jacob Abbott was a prolific author, writing juvenile fiction, brief histories, biographieHistory of King Charles the First of England is a simple and sympathetic story of the life and reign of Charles I. Thanks to the simple writing, Abbott immerses us in historical times. This book is unique in that at one moment you can find answers to long-standing questions or get new knowledge, and at another time you have new questions.
Uważają go za zdrajcę i szpiega.
Chesterton again allows us to accompany Father Brown, preternaturally-unbiased master of human nature, as he stumbles across another series of murders and mysteries. These stories in this series are not as compact as those in other books, notably The Innocence of Father Brown, but they have the same magnetic power to draw the reader in. As ever, Chesterton is interested not only in delivering first rate detective stories, but of describing human nature. His characters are flawed and biased, all blind in their own way, which is what makes it so difficult to see the truth that lies before them. Father Brown, ever kind and imperturbable, nearly always sees right through to the heart of the matter. Posing as a humble parish priest, which he is, he somehow sees beyond the class boundaries which it is Chestertons special gift to point out and puncture.
Cousin Pons is one of the last and greatest of Balzacs novels of French urban society: a cynical, pessimistic but never despairing consideration of human nature. The book tells the story of Sylvain Pons, a poor moderately successful musician who is swindled by his wealthy relatives when they learn that his collection of art and antiques is worth a fortune. In contrast to his counterpart Cousin Bette, who seeks revenge against those who have humiliated her, Cousin Pons suffers passively as his health deteriorates and he eventually dies. The forces that come into play as Pons end approaches reveal the worst sides of the people around him, and give Balzac ample room to show the rougher side of his Parisians. The author shows how a person without means can be crushed by a society that has no values except material ones.
Originally published in 1901, Crucial Instances is the second collection of six short stories connected, as the title suggests, by a hinging moment in the narrative through which the plot alters dramatically. The contents included the following: The Duchess at Prayer, The Angel at the Grave, The Recovery, Copy: A Dialogue, The Rembrandt, The Moving Finger and The Confessional. This is a great collection of stories, where Edith Wharton shows her wide range of talents, from those with a bit of a horror feel, to ones which just make the reader feel good. There is one Dialogue or play, several written in third person, several in first person, written from a mans point of view and some from a womans. All of them are carefully crafted to show a particular attitude or character or scene in great detail. Highly recommended!

Na początku ich przygody dba o nią, przysyła prezenty, spełnia jej marzenia. Wrażenie jednak okazuje się złudne, a młodzieniec pokazuje swoją prawdziwą twarz.
This is a story about good and evil. Before each person in life is a difficult choice. And he decides which way to choose. So our main character made a choice that changed his whole life. Farmer Witham worked like a dog for about six years. Corthorne offers Witham a $ 1000 deal. As a result of which a small number of people suffered. The deal ends badly. At the end of the main character regretted it.
Haggard was a great popularizer of the story about the lost world, and his The Ghost Kings are an interesting addition to dozens of others in the authors pantheon. We meet Rachel Dove, the daughter of a British missionary who has traveled through the wilds of Africa for most of her young life. Her life turned upside down when another teenager Richard Darrien saved her from sudden flooding. These two are another pair of Haggards predestined lovers.
Pan Geldhab. Komedia w trzech aktach wierszem
Geldhab próbuje wydać swoją córkę za zbankrutowanego księcia. Chce w ten sposób zdobyć tytuł i awans do elit społecznych. Typowa komiedia z nietypowym zakończeniem. Lektura warta polecenia.
Taramis, Queen of Khauran, awakened from a dream-haunted slumber to a silence that seemed more like the stillness of nighted catacombs than the normal quiet of a sleeping place. She lay staring into the darkness, wondering why the candles in their golden candelabra had gone out. A flecking of stars marked a gold-barred casement that lent no illumination to the interior of the chamber.
It was pleasant to look at Eric Murray himself, a tall, broad-shouldered young guy that he had stable grayish-blue eyes and thick wavy brown hair. He was the most popular member of his graduation class and the most enviable because his father was a millionaire and Eric was his only son. Mr. Murray was a kind-hearted, old gentleman who loved his boy. This is a good story with its own morality.

Not everyone can cope with revenge. The story of a man who allows revenge to devour his life, so he misses all the blessings that God gives him on his way. It is surprising how well the plot is built and how the author managed to ensure that the story does not lose its relevance over time. Readers will plunge into the stunning world of adventure and fiction by Rider Haggard!
The most amazing thing about this story is that we can feel the life story of Genghis Khan. Starting from being the son of a minor chieftain in Mongolia to becoming the ruler of arguably the largest empire in history. His name itself caused so much terror in the minds of the countries he invaded, that most of them just gave him the keys to their kingdoms hoping that he wont kill them all.The book Genghis Khan will tell you the story of the great ruler.
The Iron Heel is a distopian utopian socialist novel, told in first person by someone that have read the manuscript finded in a oak, hidden 600 years ago that tolds the life and adventures of a socialist activist Avis Everhard and her husband Ernst Everhard executed in 1932. The Iron Heel is a story with stories within stories...its about a past, a present, and a future...all told from the perspective of a man (Jack London) in 1906...read by current readers almost 100 years later. The Iron Heel foreshadows the current events of today by painting a picture of an oligarchy of the rich disenfranchising the poor and middle class. Its about a future time with its own history...a substantially fictional history about the very time spanning its writing and our current reading. This fictional writer is the narrator within the story, but theres another narrator (presenting the whole story) far in the future...looking back and remembering. In short, London has written a multi-level novel, which is, itself, a speculative prophecy of things to come in our own time.
This late-period Zane Grey is one of the best of his novels. Rich Ames didnt set out to be a gunslinger it was forced on him. After the bad guys try to ruin his twin sister Nesta, Ames grabs his pistols and the bloody gunfight follows. Unfortunately, his criminal actions forces him to flee from his beloved Nesta and his happy Tonto Rim home, pursued by the law and vengeful family members. Rich soon acquired the name Arizona Ames and for years after that fateful day his name struck fear into the hearts of bad men all over the West. Certainly he was quick with a six-gun; to be sure there were many notches in the Colt he threw with such lightning rapidity; but at his core he was a good man, forced into a life of wandering for protecting his kin. Arizona Ames is a classic western full of thrill and adventure, written by the granddaddy of them all Zane Grey.
A New York advertising executive leaves his job in the city to write poetry in a hut by the sea. Once there he finds himself caught in the coils of his attraction to two women a situation that so unsettles his wits that he falls prey to a heavily symbolic dream obsession. The story centers on a love triangle that develops between Landor, the niece of the man hes staying with, Scarlet and the wife of the local land baron, Hilda. Dreams End is a radical departure from Thorne Smiths humorous novels, and was, in fact, Smiths first book rejected by publishers until his Topper novels became successful. Fans of Thorne Smith are likely to be intrigued by this book for its gothic nature and for an unexpected glimpse at a more serious side of the author.
Ferragus. Chief of the Devorants
Ferragus is an 1833 novel by French author Honoré de Balzac and included in the Scenes de la vie parisienne section of his novel sequence La Comédie humaine. It is part of his trilogy Histoire des treize: Ferragus is the first part, the second is La Duchesse de Langeais and the third is The Girl with the Golden Eyes. A captivating story about human emotions and relations, set in the year 1820. Balzac narrates the tale of a man who suspects his wife of infidelity. He shows how relationships can suffer through miscommunication. Balzac proves himself as an author above par by his insightful exploration of the fear of social failure and the way it defines and governs the pattern of human life. A classic tale loved by many for generations, a great addition to the collection.

Originally published in 1906, John Dough and the Cherub remains a whimsical fantasy tale for all ages, by the author of the classic Oz books. John escapes from several people who want to eat him, and arrives on the Isle of Phreex. His new friend and constant companion is Chick, the Cherub, a very beautiful child of indeterminate sex. After a good deal of travel and many adventures, John becomes ruler of the Twin Kingdoms of Hiland and Loland, where a prophecy stated that the next king would not be made of flesh and blood. So come journey with John Dough the gingerbread man, his good friends Chick the Cherub and Para Bruin the Rubber Bear, and as Baker par excellence Jules Grogrande would say, Bon appetite!
Robert Barr (18491912) was a Scottish-Canadian short story writer and novelist, born in Glasgow, Scotland who relocated to London in 1881 where he founded the magazine The Idler in 1892 in collaboration with Jerome K Jerome. In 1895 he retired from its co-editorship and became a prolific novelist. His famous detective character Eugéne Valmont, fashioned after Sherlock Holmes, is said to be the inspiration behind Agatha Christies Hercule Poirot. Some of his works include: In the Midst of Alarms, a story of the attempted Fenian invasion of Canada in 1866; A Woman Intervenes, a story of love, finance, and American journalism; and Countess Tekla, a historical novel. Mr. Robert Barrs Cardillac is a machine-made historical tale of the time of King Louis XIII, set in old France.
The Master Key. An Electrical Fairy Tale
The Master Key: An Electrical Fairy Tale was one of Baums earliest full length fantasy books for children, published in 1901 just one year after The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Rob Joslyn is in most respects an ordinary American teenager; his one distinguishing peculiarity is his passion for the new science and craft of electricity. He has his own laboratory in the attic of the family home, and has rigged the house with his electrical gadgets. One day, amid the bewildering cluster of circuits and wires in his workshop, Rob causes a blinding flash of light from which emerges the Demon of Electricity. A young boy receives a series of gifts, electrical gifts, and has a series of unusual adventures. Rob travels the world, rendering assistance to European heads of state and narrowly escaping disaster at the hands of primitive cannibals, Turks and Tatars, pirates, and evil scientists who try to steal his inventions.
