Filozof oczekuje w więzieniu na wykonanie wyroku kary śmierci, a odwiedzający go przyjaciel namawia go na ucieczkę. Rozmowa taka prawdopodobnie nigdy nie miała miejsca, jednak posłużyła Platonowi do przedstawienia argumentów Sokratesa przeciwko ucieczce i za poddaniem się wyrokowi. Sokrates powołuje się tutaj na swoistą umowę społeczną: mimo że nie zgadza się on z wydanym na niego wyrokiem, gotów jest go przyjąć z uwagi na szacunek do prawa, którego należy przestrzegać. W dialogu zestawiono również kwestie moralności jednostki z jej obowiązkami wobec ogółu oraz zaprezentowano przesłanki pacyfizmu moralnego reprezentowanego przez Sokratesa: sprzeciwiać się złu można tylko na drodze przekonywania, a nie odpłacaniem złem za zło. Kriton stanowi kontynuację dzieła Obrona Sokratesa opisującego proces Sokratesa zakończony skazaniem filozofa na śmierć.

Max leads the reader to characters bigger than life, they come to life as people we wish we knew personally. People who deal with life by taking an active part instead of just observing as it passes by. Brand along with Zane Grey and Louis LAmour form the holy trinity of western writers. If youve read the other two and not Brand, then youre not experiencing everything the western can be. Highly recommended, especially for those who love the Old Western genre!
