Sampson, using the name of her sister Nell Speed, wrote 4 titles in the Molly Brown series after her sisters death in 1913. She also wrote several volumes including the Carter Girls series and the Tucker Twins before she began publishing works under her own name. The Carter Girls of Carter House is a good, clean book full of the antics of a family working together to solve their financial woes in a very creative way. The girls are creative, daring, dramatic, and pure fun! As usual with Sampsons writing, the story is characterized with a contagious work ethic, ambition, cheerfulness, and entrepreneurial endeavors. She shines in the realm of attitudes toward hardship.

Powieść autobiograficzna. Książka pełna przemyśleń autora i jego wewnętrznych dialogów. Stendhal na sobie dokonuje szczegółowej psychoanalizy. Stawia pytania, a odpowiedzi na nie zawierają ocenę nie tylko jego dotychczasowego życia, ale też sytuacji politycznej kraju.

This is another great novel by E. Phillips Oppenheim, the prolific English novelist who was in his lifetime a major and successful writer of genre fiction including thrillers and spy novels, and who wrote over a 100 of them. David Newberry is released from Wandsworth prison having served a year for burglary. He was briefly a member of The Lambs, a London gang run by Tottie Green, with the help of the beautiful, coarse, but alluring Belle. Vowing revenge, Newberry buys a gym and assembles and trains a crew of willing fighters using the techniques of Juiy Jitsu which he learned from Asians while in Australia. Oppenheim provides a mystery of another sort!

The Dorrington Deed Box

Arthur Morrison

English writer Morrison chronicles the exploits of Horace Dorrington, a raconteur and scoundrel who hails from a very different social strata than the typical Victorian detective. Mr. Dorrington himself is a marvelous creation, charming and with no moral scruples whatsoever, clever, and entirely devoted to achieving as great a profit for himself as possible if this involves doing some honest detection, that is fine if it involved extorting the criminal instead of turning him over to the police, no problem, if it involves having the client murdered well, some things cant be helped. There are six short stories in this collection which begins with The Narrative of Mr. James Rigby. Definitely fun and recommended for readers who want to explore the darker side of Victorian detective stories.

Young Lord Stranleigh is a thrilling tale of romance and suspense by Robert Barr. Some very sharp City of London operators think that rich Lord Stranleigh, a Bertie Woosterish West End fashion plate, is an easy mark to make some money. There is a potential gold mine in Africa, for example; a dilapidated but workable cargo steamer The Rajah, to haul the gold ore back to England. What more is needed? An entertaining yarn of dealing, double dealing and even triple dealing, and young Lord Stranleigh is by no means as big a mug as he looks. Suspenseful and full of character, this tale is a must for Barr fans.
