B.M. Bower

B.M Bower had a gift for writing Westerns, weaving tales of adventure, intrigue, mystery, and romance often with surprise endings. They are historical reminiscences of pioneers among the sage and bush, clearing the way for a new America. She wrote about working cowboys usually on western ranches, with the occasional visit of an eastern types. Her books were known for their factual attention to detail such as cattle branding. Cole is the son of wealth, but through no fault of his own this wealth has disappeared. The plot is well constructed with well drawn subsidiary characters and provides a number of interesting twists. Highly recommended, especially for those who love the Old Western genre.

Ici on retrouve tous les themes, des gens dhonneur, que ce soit Roland de Montrevel, aide de camp de Bonaparte pas encore Napoléon 1er, ou Charles de Saint-Hermine, chef des compagnons de Jehu sous le nom de Morgan, un amour impossible, batailles et duels et la composition de fiction et histoire.

When David Granet asks for a place to stay within a twenty-mile radius of either Nice or Cannes, he does not anticipate the trouble that he finds at the Manoir of Lady Grassleyes. The Lady of the manor is dead when he arrives, and the will is disputed. Granet gets himself drawn into an ugly dispute between the estate agent and Lady Grassleys niece. At stake is the land, the fortune, and a mysterious wealth in botanical formulas.

The fifth of the Earl Derr Biggers Charlie Chan books books involves the Honolulu detective in a case of murder that stretches around the world, as members of a tour group are dying, one by one. Charlies old friend Chief Inspector Duff from Scotland Yard comes to his rescue in this book. Duff is investigating the murder of Hugh Morris Drake, a sweet old man strangled in Londons famous and exclusive hotel, Broomes. Drake is with a tour group encircling the globe. While Duffs ship is docked in Honolulu, the detective is shot and wounded by his quarry; though he survives, he is unable to continue with the cruise, and Chan takes his place on the ship to San Francisco, where finally the mystery is solved.
