Rytmy abo wiersze polskie to tomik poetycki autorstwa Mikołaja Sępa Szarzyńskiego, polskiego poety przełomu epok renesansu i baroku, najznakomitszego obok Jana Kochanowskiego twórcy literatury staropolskiej. Na Rytmy... składa się cykl sześciu sonetów (bodajże pierwszych wierszy w literaturze polskiej napisanych w tej formie), sześć pieśni parafrazujących biblijne psalmy, dziewięć pieśni religijnych o wymowie teocentrycznej, trzydzieści epitafiów i napisów na herby. Zbiór został wydany po śmierci autora w 1601 r. przez jego brata Jakuba. Stanowi jeden z pierwszych przejawów baroku w literaturze polskiej.

While traveling from Paris on Le Train Bleu, he meets an Italian secret agent who is carrying documents which show the treachery of the dictator Matorni. Matorni is a thinly disguised Mussolini. (The title of the novel bears no relation to the book). Interestingly, this novel was written in 1928, which was only 2 years after Mussolini assumed dictatorial powers over the country. The partisan resistance to the fascists are given the name red shirts.

E. Phillips Oppenheim (1866-1946) was an internationally renowned author of mystery and espionage thrillers. His novels and short stories have all the elements of blood-racing adventure and intrigue and are precursors of modern-day spy fictions. 1924s The Wrath to Come is one of his novels that are fascinating extrapolations of the political dangers that faced Europe and America in the first half of the twentieth century. This novel is very occasionally mentioned as being the weird book that seems to predict WWII. Written in the lull between the two great wars it postulates a German/Japanese alliance and the main plot revolves around Britain trying to shanghai America into foreign intrigue. The novel is extremely exciting reading and Oppenheim keeps the action moving along swiftly, as he always did.
