Choroba Parkinsona, występująca najczęściej między 50. r.ż. a 60. r.ż., średnio w wieku 58 lat, to postępująca choroba zwyrodnieniowa ośrodkowego układu nerwowego o globalnym znaczeniu i poważnych konsekwencjach dla zdrowia publicznego. Do jej głównych objawów należą: drżenie występujące w spoczynku, sztywność mięśni oraz bradykinezja, tj. spowolnienie ruchowe (tzw. triada parkinsonowska). Zmiany zanikowe istoty czarnej zlokalizowanej w śródmózgowiu, odpowiedzialnej za wytwarzanie dopaminy, przyczyniają się do wystąpienia symptomów tej choroby. Pacjenci z chorobą Parkinsona cierpią na różne objawy pozamotoryczne, które często mają charakter zaburzeń psychicznych, szczególnie lęku napadowego lub uogólnionego. Autor przedstawia przypadek 63-letniego mężczyzny z rozpoznaną przed 4 laty chorobą Parkinsona o dość znacznym nasileniu. Pogłębiało się osłabienie lewych kończyn (górnej i dolnej) oraz ogólne spowolnienie ruchów, następnie w pełni rozwinął się zespół niespokojnych nóg (specyficzne doznania czuciowe w obrębie stóp i podudzi w godzinach wieczornych i nocnych, zmniejszające się chwilowo podczas poruszania, chodzenia, naciągania mięśni). W leczeniu zastosowano połączenie lewodopy z karbidopą oraz pregabaliną, po czym po ok. 8 tygodniach uzyskano zmniejszenie spowolnienia i sztywności, jak również znaczną redukcję niepokoju i lęku.
