Utwory te Zapolska napisała w końcowej fazie swej twórczości. Dają one świadectwo różnorodnych i intensywnych poszukiwań tematycznych Zapolskiej: egzotyki hazardu uprawianego w Monte Carlo i rodzimej nędzy pariasów, cynizmu polityki na dworze cesarskim i romansowych obyczajów w lecznicach promujących (mimo że karykaturalnie) tzw. zdrowy tryb życia. Za podstawę wydania krytycznego przyjęto skrypty pochodzące z teatru lwowskiego (dziś zdeponowane w dziale specjalnym Biblioteki Śląskiej), gdyż te maszynopisy (jak można mniemać) pozostawały pod kontrolą autorki, która współreżyserowała  niektóre spektakle. Warto jednak zaznaczyć, że posiłkowano się również rękopisami przechowywanymi obecnie w Bibliotece Teatru im. J. Słowackiego w Krakowie. Recenzja książki ukazała się w czasopiśmie „Nowe Książki” nr 6/2012, s. 17.
