The Marriage of Esther. A Torres Straits Sketch
The Marriage of Esther, surrounded by a messy community of settlers on a remote island off the coast of Australia, combines the best qualities of a classic action-adventure film with an ingeniously crafted riddle and right in the middle of all this is a heartbreaking novel.
The Marriage of Meldrum Strange
This is an immoral story. Ommony Cottwolves is inaccurate in the report. The report is incorrect. They say that the press is saying this, and with it it can be learned that Maddrum String is a billionaire with brains, but without a heart; that his heart, if he has it, is made of iron sheets; that his stomach is of bronze, and the feet of clay; that his friendship is imaginary, but his enmity is a bitter and terrible truth; that he lacks repentance, but he has crazy ambitions; and that his superficial external resemblance to General Ulysses Grant was manifestly devised by Satan to bring the memory of this gallant soldier to bad weather.
The sequel to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, set shortly after the events in the first book. A fantastical tale of endless imagination, The Marvelous Land of Oz follows the adventures of a young boy named Tip, who, for as long as he can remember has been under the guardianship of a witch named Mombi in the Land of Oz. When Tips prank, in creating a pumpkin-headed man to frighten Mombi backfires, and he is threatened with the terrible fate of being made into a statue as punishment, the young boy runs away and heads for the Emerald City, taking the now living Jack Pumpkinhead with him. Here he meets with our old friends the Scarecrow and Tin Woodman, as well as some new friends like the Wooden Sawhorse, the Highly Magnified Woggle-Bug, and the amazing Gump. They thwart the wicked plans of the evil witch Mombi and overcome the rebellion of General Jinjur and her army of young women. This story is as exciting and endearing today as it was when first published more than 80 years ago.
Rarely do writers make the main character intelligent villains. However, Fred M. White decided to do just that. His main character, Felix Graida, is a brilliant criminal. This is a book about incredible adventures and exciting stories by Felix Grade.
The Master Key. An Electrical Fairy Tale
The Master Key: An Electrical Fairy Tale was one of Baums earliest full length fantasy books for children, published in 1901 just one year after The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Rob Joslyn is in most respects an ordinary American teenager; his one distinguishing peculiarity is his passion for the new science and craft of electricity. He has his own laboratory in the attic of the family home, and has rigged the house with his electrical gadgets. One day, amid the bewildering cluster of circuits and wires in his workshop, Rob causes a blinding flash of light from which emerges the Demon of Electricity. A young boy receives a series of gifts, electrical gifts, and has a series of unusual adventures. Rob travels the world, rendering assistance to European heads of state and narrowly escaping disaster at the hands of primitive cannibals, Turks and Tatars, pirates, and evil scientists who try to steal his inventions.
The story of an undercover detective who works to capture the thief of the Bank. It would seem that he had already caught him. After all, he pressed a button that signaled a patrol garage, and another one that called the inspector and several other officers from the next room. Before the side door of the bank there was a big car in a limousine, which had two entrances, facing two streets. It was clearly a personal car of a rich man, because he was the latest model and luxurious in all respects. These were intelligent criminals who are not so easy to catch.
“The Master Mind of Mars“ is a novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, an American fiction writer, who created such great characters as Tarzan and John Carter of Mars. The Master Mind of Mars is a science fantasy novel, the sixth of the Barsoom series. It features the characters of John Carter and Carter's wife Dejah Thoris. Full of swordplay and daring feats, the series is considered a classic example of 20th-century pulp fiction. The story is set on Mars, imagined as a dying planet with a harsh desert environment. This vision of Mars was based on the work of the astronomer Percival Lowell, whose ideas were widely popularized in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Arnold (a writer), Allan (an artist) and Arthur (works in finance) all live together. Once their attention is caught by a middle age man and a young girl about sixteen who seems frightened. They overhear where they are eating and continue to watch the couple and Arnold even goes over to offer her assistance. Then a surprising thing happens, his acquaintance shoots the man shes with and disappears. Amid all the confusion and hospital and police, Arnold stays with the young woman and brings her home. The three men become her guardians for the next couple of years. The mysterious man comes to see them and asks them to take care of her and not let her go to anyone. Why do so many people want her? Does Arnold get his real story?
The Master of Ballantrae. A Winters Tale
A tale of fierce internecine feud that destroyed Lord Henry Darrissdire and his older brother James, also called the ruler of Ballantre. The story of their deaths is described by a devoted servant of the clan old Ephraim McKellar. The novel tells how easy it is to lose honor and how difficult it is to preserve what is dear to you when money and power are at stake...
In this novel, for a change, the protagonist is a master, not students. We see events from the point of view of some boys, but it is new that readers are asked to look at things from the point of view of the teacher. Mark Ralesford is a young gentleman who has just become engaged. He is also ready to start work after graduation and travel around the world. He is accepted as a teacher and home master at a boarding school called Grandcourt, where, coincidentally, one of his students will be Arthur Herapat, the younger brother of his bride.
It happens that you are a hostage to circumstances. The main character, Nathan, is trying to clear his name from an unfair accusation. After 12 years, holding in prison on a false charge of theft. Can he do it? After all, now everyone looks at him differently.
Maries skill lies in her powers of observation. She sees how men behave with women, how the rich behave with the poor, how power is based on political machinations, how actors bow to virtuous people, how easily every person dissolves gossip and ruins lives. How easily a man turns into a murderer, how genius is diminished if a woman possesses it.
After his partner was killed during a card game, Link Bradway travels to South Pass, Wyoming to find the killer. But South Pass is awash with players and gunsmiths, and Bradways quest leads him directly to a bloody battle when he discovers that he will need much more than a gun to stay alive.
The Mayor of Casterbridge. The Life and Death of a Man of Character
The novel tells about a man with character and unusual fate. The life story of Michael Henchard, first a homeless worker, a haymaker, then the mayor of Casterbridge and a local rich man and again a farm laborer, involuntarily arouses interest in the intensity of events.
The young handsome Mayor of Mechester, Daniel Poynton is the owner of a very successful shoe manufacturer, the major employer in the city and the mayor will soon be a Lord Mayor. Never before interested in women, or even in social affairs, he is stricken by the beauty of The Lady Ursula Manningham and falls in love. As the novel develops, Poyntons factory is threatened by foreign manufacturers who want to establish a cooperative monopoly with him. At the same time, Poyntons relationship with Violet Grey, who is a competent secretary, continues to develop and becomes more important to his business and social life. Meanwhile his infatuation with Lady Ursula progresses to the point of asking her to marry... The book shows interesting color on the interaction between socialist workers unions and managements enlightened response to worker unrest.
Miss Saunders is out for an adventure. One, which is full of secrets, hints, and half-lies. One, which will require all of her wits. Miss Saunders, a discreet domestic spy of some kind, is hired by Mayor Packard to look after his unaccountably abstracted wife whilst he goes out of town for a fortnight. The lady is unhappy, and the reason for her grave unhappiness is more serious than you think. A detective novel involving theft, bigamy, a haunted house, lost money, ciphers and code breaking. An American detective-story writer, Greens thrillers are characterized by logical construction and a sound knowledge of criminal law. She was one of a handful of women writing detective stories at the time.
