Sonderaktion Krakau niemieckiej akcji pacyfikacyjnej skierowanej przeciwko polskim uczonym. Profesor Stanisław Urbańczyk, wybitny językoznawca, miał 30 lat, kiedy został aresztowany wraz z profesorami krakowskich szkół wyższych w ramach Sonderaktion Krakau. Był świadkiem cierpień najwybitniejszych przedstawicieli nauki nieludzko traktowanych w obozach Sachsenchausen i Dachau. Jeszcze w czasie wojny zaczął pisać wspomnienia, które stanowią przejmujący dokument relację świadka i uczestnika   losów krakowskich profesorów od pierwszego momentu uwięzienia w auli uniwersytetu, przez czasowe zatrzymanie na Montelupich, więzienie we Wrocławiu,  życie codzienne, choroby i cierpienia w Sachsenhausen i Dachau  aż do momentu uwolnienia.

"Przedmiotem zainteresowań badawczych w tym opracowaniu jest miejsce uniwersytetów ludowych w polskiej teorii i praktyce oświatowo-wychowawczej do końca II wojny światowej. Jako cezurę dla prowadzonych rozważań przyjęto lata 1869-1945. Dolną granicę rozważań wyznacza pierwsze doniesienie na temat uniwersytetów ludowych w języku polskim, które pojawiło się na łamach lwowskiej "Szkoły".
