Trochę mylnie kojarzymy Bułgarię tylko jako cel wakacyjnych wojaży i wycieczek letnią porą. Nasze obustronne relacje są znacznie bliższe, na co licznych konkretnych argumentów doszukuje się Autor eseju. Drugim bardzo interesującym wątkiem jest historia paralelna – wpływy wydarzeń światowych i europejskich na rozwój sytuacji politycznej i społeczno-ekonomicznej w obu państwach. Autor co prawda we wstępie zastrzega, iż nie jest znawcą bułgarskich arkanów, ale nie należy zbyt poważnie odnosić się do tej uwagi. Z wielkim znawstwem i erudycją (choć i nieukrywaną sympatią dla Bułgarii i jej mieszkańców) oprowadza nas jak rasowy przewodnik przez najnowsze dzieje polityczne i dyplomatyczne.
