E. Phillips Oppenheim (1866-1946) was an internationally renowned author of mystery and espionage thrillers. His novels and short stories have all the elements of blood-racing adventure and intrigue and are precursors of modern-day spy fictions. 1924s The Wrath to Come is one of his novels that are fascinating extrapolations of the political dangers that faced Europe and America in the first half of the twentieth century. This novel is very occasionally mentioned as being the weird book that seems to predict WWII. Written in the lull between the two great wars it postulates a German/Japanese alliance and the main plot revolves around Britain trying to shanghai America into foreign intrigue. The novel is extremely exciting reading and Oppenheim keeps the action moving along swiftly, as he always did.

It is interesting to watch Mr. Sabin control himself and walk with such dignity and aristocratic bearing and tact, even as he plots to save his own life and reunite with his beloved Lucille. The Yellow Crayon presents a fascinating picture of the political mindset of the day to go along with the twists and turns of the story. Readers of Mr. Oppenheims novels may always count on a story of absorbing interest, turning on a complicated plot, worked out with dexterous craftsmanship.

The Yellow Streak is the first book in the Inspector Manderton series. A wealthy industrialist with a mysterious past, has a group of friends staying with him at his country house in England. He apparently commits suicide, but a good friend of the young woman engaged to the industrialist believes its murder and seeks to find the murderer. Good old fashioned country house novel: sort of locked room, suicide or murder mystery. Highly recommended for people who like to treat a mystery story as a solvable riddle!

The Zeppelin Passenger is the most audacious German spy story with a strong hint of romance that Mr. Oppenheim has heretofore written.

The play's underlying anti-capitalist theme is also found in some of London's other works. The plot revolves around recovering documents that support Knox's revelations.

Entrepreneurship is a key factor for economic growth, improving the competitiveness of countries’ economies and increasing social prosperity. Young entrepreneurs face a number of challenges as a result of the rapidly changing socio-economic environment. In their activities aimed at launching a business, young entrepreneurs need knowledge and skills on a wide range of topics related to finance, law, marketing, product management, etc. This is why more and more projects aiming at comprehensive assistance in launching a business are being developed. One of them is the project “Acceleration of Business Support Ecosystem” (ACCESS), which was co-financed under the programme Interreg V-A Lithuania-Poland 2014-2020. ACCESS strengthens entrepreneurial initiatives by improving business support services in Kaunas and Marijampole region on the Lithuanian side, as well as Suwalki and Bialystok sub-regions in Poland. One of the many results of the project is the creation of two publications on theoretical and practical aspects of setting up and running a business. These publications aim to popularise entrepreneurial attitudes and provide knowledge necessary to achieve success in business. Young entrepreneurs, before embarking on their brave activities, should check where and what funds they can obtain to start or develop their own enterprise. They should gain knowledge about the target group they intend to reach. In addition, they should focus on ways to communicate with the hypothetical recipient. An equally important aspect is to create a team that will work effectively.

Monografia to rezultat pracy międzynarodowej grupy naukowców, zainteresowanych badaniem działań inwestorów zagranicznych we wdrażaniu programów społecznej odpowiedzialności biznesu w krajach rozwijających się.  Autorzy starają się zweryfikować główną hipotezę, że gotowość korporacji wielonarodowych do działania na rzecz społeczności lokalnych zależy od dojrzałości krajowych i lokalnych ram prawnych. Im bardziej rozwinięty jest kraj pod względem standardów prawnych, tym bardziej lokalna społeczność czerpie korzyści z CSR. Natomiast w biednych krajach – ze słabymi standardami prawnymi, międzynarodowe firmy nie są zobowiązane do respektowania potrzeb miejscowej ludności. CSR stała się jedną z najważniejszych koncepcji nowoczesnego zarządzania. Odpowiedzialność społeczna biznesu jest często definiowana jako koncepcja, w której firmy integrują elementy społeczne i środowiskowe z działaniami biznesowymi, zarządzaniem i relacjami z interesariuszami. Badania Autorów nad społeczną odpowiedzialnością biznesu ujawniły, że istnieją dwa główne modele: pierwszy to model After Profit Obligation, nawiązujący do piramidy potrzeb Maslowa, opisany przez amerykańskiego ekonomistę A.B. Carrolla. Model ten zakłada, że w obszarze odpowiedzialności ekonomicznej istnieje możliwość wyboru między zyskiem a ryzykiem. Zwolennicy tego podejścia dostrzegają, że trudne warunki rynkowe zmuszają przedsiębiorców do priorytetowego traktowania własnych interesów, co również skutkuje maksymalizacją bogactwa społecznego. Milton Friedman uważał, że wkład danej firmy w ogólny dobrobyt polega na jej wydajnej i efektywnej produkcji dóbr i usług, która trwa tak długo, jak długo społeczeństwo uzna to za użyteczne, pozostawiając kwestie odpowiedzialności społecznej państwu. Drugi model, który został spopularyzowany przede wszystkim w twórczości D.J. Wooda, nosi nazwę Before Obligation Zysk. Pod pewnymi względami model ten jest odwróconą hierarchią. Uważa się, że wartościami najwyższymi i najważniejszymi są wartości moralne, jednak są one podporządkowane wszystkim innym wartościom. Dlatego u podstawy piramidy leży odpowiedzialność moralna, która jest stosowana niezależnie od warunków, w jakich działa organizacja. Zgodnie z tym modelem moralna postawa właścicieli, menedżerów i zwykłych pracowników tworzy wartość dodaną, która wpływa na kształtowanie i pogłębianie relacji z interesariuszami oraz daje firmie przewagę konkurencyjną. Idea wzajemnej solidarności oznacza, że firma dążąca do zysku nie powinna szkodzić społeczeństwu, w którym się znajduje. Społeczną odpowiedzialność biznesu można traktować jako element szerszego obszaru nauk ekonomicznych, który nazywa się ekonomią społeczną. Ekonomię społeczną można też traktować jako odpowiedź na nieprawidłowości w funkcjonowaniu gospodarki narodowej i fiasko modelu neoliberalnego. W latach 2020-2021 byliśmy świadkami bardzo istotnych i fundamentalnych wydarzeń związanych z pandemią COVID-19 i postępowaniem wiodących firm farmaceutycznych produkujących szczepionki przeciwko koronawirusowi (m.in. Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, czy opracowane w Rosji, Chinach, Indiach itp.). Pfizer skorzystał z ogromnych dotacji w wysokości 6,5 miliarda euro. Główne pytanie w odniesieniu do tych subsydiów pozostaje otwarte i bez odpowiedzi: czy te przedsiębiorstwa działały głównie w interesie społeczności międzynarodowej, czy po prostu wykorzystały okazję do wzbogacenia się w brutalny sposób (poszukiwanie lepszych cen, nagłe zatrzymanie produkcja szczepionek, odmowa dostarczania szczepionek po niższych cenach do mniej zamożnych krajów itp.).

Praca podzielona jest na trzy rozdziały, z których pierwszy stanowi wprowadzenie teoretyczne oraz przegląd badań nad dyskursem reklamowym, natomiast dwa następne najpierw omawiają i poszerzają wybrane modele teoretyczne (Politeness Theory - Brown & Levinson (1987), Graded Salience Hypothesis - Giora (2003), Dynamic Model of Meaning - Kecskes (2008)), a w dalszej części demonstrują ich wykorzystanie w badaniach  o charakterze analitycznym oraz empirycznym. Książka jest bogato ilustrowana, zawiera także obszerną bibliografię literatury poświęconej dyskursowi reklamowemu oraz indeks.   The book is an attemtp at extending the scope of methodological insights into the discourse of press advertisements by means of elaborating new models of analysis of this peculiar type of pictorial-textual artefact. The applicability and feasibility of these new models are tested against a rich corpus of press advertisements extracted from Polish, British and Chinese newspapers and magazines. The book is divided into three chapters: the first one constitutes a theoretical introduction, containing an overview of studies on the discourse of advertising, whereas the remaining two first introduce seleced theoretical models (Politeness Theory - Brown & Levinson (1987), Graded Salience Hypothesis - Giora (2003), Dynamic Model of Meaning - Kecskes (2008)) and later demonstrate their analytical potential in the investigation of press advertisements. The book is richly illustrated and contains extensive bibliography of advertising discourse literature, followed by an index.
