George Orwell

“Burmese Days“ is a novel by George Orwell, an English novelist, essayist, and journalist. He is best known for the allegorical novella Animal Farm and the dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four.   Burmese Days is the first novel by English writer George Orwell, published in 1934. Set in British Burma during the waning days of the empire, when Burma was ruled from Delhi as part of British India, the novel serves as "a portrait of the dark side of the British Raj."

Burmese Days is an early novel by Orwell, in which the future great English writer enters into a kind of literary confrontation with his no less brilliant predecessor, Kipling. The life of the British colonists in Burma, united in a sense of superiority over the natives, but internally divided, exhausted by snobbery and petty strife. The fate of the local inhabitants, who seem to have become Europeanized, but who have preserved deep inside the eastern mentality, inaccessible to the understanding of the British.

Te same, w których dziewczyna zatraca się bez reszty i w których jako jedyna potrafi dostrzec dobro. I tak Victoria co dzień mierzy się z kolejnymi prawdami, a najboleśniejsza jest ta, że Nathaniel to człowiek o duszy naznaczonej tysiącem blizn. Ona jako jedyna stara się zasklepić je wszystkie, choć nie dostrzega, że przez to sama powoli się wykrwawia... Wszak tylko ona wierzy w to, że spotkała dobrego człowieka. Wbrew temu, co sądzi o nim świat, wbrew temu, co sądzi o sobie on sam. Victoria to wie. A przynajmniej tak jej się wydaje. Jeżeli zbyt szeroko otworzysz oczy, prawda może cię oślepić

Niech świat płonie w ogniu, który rozpaliliśmy Victoria Joseline Clark próbuje żyć nowym życiem. Życiem, w którym nie ma miejsca na chaos i mrok. Na problemy, krzyki, niepewność i strach. Na ból duszy i ciała. Na to wszystko, co wniósł w nie Nathaniel Shey. Tyle że nie jest łatwo uwolnić się od magii spojrzenia czarnych oczu tego toksycznego chłopaka, nawet jeżeli osiemnastolatka już wie, że ich głębia może mieć zabójczą moc. Nathaniel Shey nie chce odejść, mimo że właściwie odszedł już dawno. Przeszłość jest jak kotwica, trzymająca życie Victorii na uwięzi i niepozwalająca jej ruszyć ku przyszłości. A kiedy Nate nagle, po pięciu miesiącach rozłąki, staje na drodze dziewczyny, płomień, który cały czas się tlił, rozpala się na nowo. Piękny i niszczycielski. Możesz zamknąć oczy, ale to nie sprawi, że świat zniknie

The novel takes place in the Yukon Territory in 1893. The main character, nicknamed "Burning Daylight" was the most successful entrepreneur of the Alaskan Gold Rush. The story of the main character was partially based upon the life of Oakland entrepreneur "Borax" Smith.
