The daughter ignores most of her remarks as her mother sees every passer-by as a possible protector for the daughter. But soon the gentleman begins to exchange glances with the daughter. A Second Home is a classic French romance novel by the great French novelist, Honoré de Balzac. It is an interesting investigation of a relationship between a normal person and a religious nutter.

His large output of works, collectively entitled The Human Comedy (La Comedie Humaine), consists of 95 finished works and 48 unfinished works. The novel A Start in Life is part of the Scenes of Private Life section of Balzacs masterpiece. In much of Balzacs work, the aristocracy is portrayed as vain, duplicitous, and greedy. But in this novel, it is members of the working class who are mercilessly skewered when what starts out as a harmless prank rapidly snowballs into a comedy of errors with profound consequences. A comic novel in which an intrigue about property serves as the excuse for a trip in a public diligence, where a group of people try to mystify each other with strange tales of their lives.

At the Sign of the Cat and Racket is a short novel by Honoré de Balzac. It was first published in 1830, but the story takes place about two decades earlier. It is one of the earliest pieces Balzac wrote for inclusion in his Comédie Humaine, the collection of 91 interconnected writings in which he documents the entire scope of French society in the early 19th century.
